PSP = teh suck, DS = the future, says EB

Now, we wouldn't do anything so childish as to rub this ad into the faces of our competition, but we will, however, make a post where you could comment and, in the process, make fun of them. It's OK, they never read this site anyway (we're pretty sure they can't read, which is why all the flashing colors and dumbed-down games on the PSP appeal to them so), so feel free to say why you hate the PSP.
For us? It's the battery life ... and lack of good games ... and basically everything else.

Nice job taking jabs at your PSPFanboy brothers and then taking a story from them, good show there. :D
Is it too hard to say that each handheld has its strengths and weaknesses? Personally, I don't like my DS as much because the games on it feel too cheap and dumbed down to be worth the price that is usually asked for them, especially since DS game prices hardly drop. Mario Kart DS is still $30 - $35 even though it's been out since last November.
That's not to say I don't enjoy my DS or the games on it, but that's simply how I feel about it. Because I do like my DS, it's why I come to this blog to read the news here.
Now to answer your question, why do I hate the PSP? I don't, but I do hate certain things about it. The over abundance of ported titles is one, though there are some that are welcome like Gitaroo Man Lives, Disgaea and Final Fantasy Tactics, and the lack of accessories stateside, like the camera and the GPS add-on. Other than that, it has a rich game library and is a fully-functional multimedia device, albeit with some irritating limitations on format support.
There are similar irritations with the DS as well. It's never dropping price of games has stopped me from purchasing many games that just aren't worth the full $30 or $35, especially when DS games tend to be a great deal shorter than PSP offerings because of the limited capacity of the DS cartridges. The lower quality graphics is a minute detail for me, since games aren't about the graphical achievements, but it does feel kinda cheap to see games not taking advantage of the hardware presented, like how the most recent Pokemon games still doesn't use more actively animated battles than its GBA kin.
Little nuances for both systems, but I like them both. This ad is obviously from a market perspective of course and DS Lites are the hottest selling hardware out there, beating out the Wii too, and telling people they can trade in these other handhelds make sense. It's not the best wording is all.

PSPfanboy can't really bring content like DSfanboy did. And DSfanboy is growing increasingly childish. Guess Joystiq is about the only blog left to bother reading gaming news on.
Anony1 @ Feb 20th 2007 5:56PM
First of all, battery life? You've got to be kidding me, the DS Lite has HORRIBLE battery life when you've got the light brightness to a setting where you can actually see the games. Second, what are you, 5? Go back to kindergarten, little kids shouldn't be using the internet.
fululian @ Feb 20th 2007 6:14PM

CJC @ Feb 20th 2007 6:22PM
Now, now, there's no need to be so harsh. The battery life isn't that bad unless you're playing a graphically-intensive game, and there's a buch of good games for the PSP now. Not as many as the DS, but it's pretty decent.
SuicideNinja @ Feb 20th 2007 6:32PM
I didn't really care for the DS Lite...I'll keep my "clunky" original.
The PSP tries to be too many things. And it doesn't do any of them well. My cell phone already does most of what the PSP is so proud of, so it's of little use to me. Even optimized, the PSP is too slow to load games, and it's cumbersome to carry around. If I wanted to play those kinds of games, I would just play them on the big screen via console.
My PSP and PS3 are probably the least played gaming devices I've ever owned. They just don't offer much in the gaming entertainment department.
We're due for a DS2 soon though. I've lost most of my interest in it since I obtained all the current generation consoles.
killahcheese @ Feb 20th 2007 6:25PM
David your obviously a moron.
"It's OK, they never read this site anyway (we're pretty sure they can't read, which is why all the flashing colors and dumbed-down games on the PSP appeal to them so),"
The flashing colors and dumbed-down games. I'm sure Nintendogs and Super Mario Bros are the kings of logical games.
While your at it, go play the latest 48th pokemon rainbow game that came out for Nintendo.

Seriously dude, this is fanboyism at it's worst. I strongly suggest that you think twice before making a post like this in the future. It makes you and DS Fanboy look childish.
@3
I got fed up with the fanboyism on the mainstream blogs and started my own. I'm not the only one either, check out Wordpress.com and search for gaming or just google for gaming blog and you'll be able to find half a dozen quality amature blogs.
Frip @ Feb 20th 2007 7:15PM
I see nothing wrong with this. It is indeed fact that the PSP is shit, Nintendo bias or not.
james @ Feb 20th 2007 7:16PM
I think a lot of you commentators are missing the obvious humor and light-hearted jabbing of this post, and instead taking it as some sort of obsessively serious fanboy call-to-arms. Lighten the f' up.
Mr Khan @ Feb 20th 2007 7:17PM
Guys, guys
I doubt Mr. Hinkle would intentionally post something so virulent
Not even the worst of Vladimir Cole is as bad as this, if taken seriously
Billy Baroo @ Feb 20th 2007 7:21PM
Yeah, the whole fanboy thing is bad when you start making derogatory comments about other products. It's cool to talk highly about the product that you like the best, but don't be negative. There's a lot of us that don't care and would like to have every kind of game system if we could afford it. I'd like to have a Playstation 3, a Nintendo Wii, and an X-Box 360.
KillahCheese @ Feb 20th 2007 7:41PM

The sad truth is, he is not joking.
Hes serious.
If hes joking, then he is making fun of the DS on a DS fansite? I don't think so.
Props to you using the term 'call-to-arms' made me lol there.

userpjx @ Feb 21st 2007 5:53PM
I don't know why people that say they are tired of fanboyism in game blogs read DS FANBOY. They obviously didn't mean this the way it's being interpreted.
That being said. The DS is kicking the PSP's ass. Deal with it.
Andrew Yoon @ Feb 20th 2007 9:34PM

Frip @ Feb 20th 2007 9:40PM

atsui @ Feb 20th 2007 9:44PM
The ds screen shuts and smaller, so it's more convenient and is easy to put in your pocket without worrieng about the screen, psp feels like it's going to break, I'm afraid to buy new games from the psp because of the firmware because I like playing emulated games on it and the firmware cripples the homebrew, I use to hate DS until the new technology came out(DS Lite) and the screen looked better and it wasn't until I broke an arm that I decided to get it. When you have only one arm, the DS is awesome. Now I like the style of playing the DS, it's slick and pretty like the Ipod and if you play a game like zoo keeper(it's kind of like bejeweled) it is a lot easier to play with a stylus than it is with buttons. That's my opinion. I use to be an ass towards the DS, but now I just enjoy it more than my PSP, and can't wait for the new Zelda game to come out on it.
Steve 3.2 @ Feb 20th 2007 9:51PM
While my PSP may sit idle for weeks at a time, I would never trade it in for $100. Anyone who would should have never picked up a PSP to being with.
As a good fanboy, I can acknowledge that both of the system have their strengths and weaknesses. But when it comes to the games (which is what it's supposed to be all about), the DS continues to have the upper hand.
Caleb @ Feb 20th 2007 10:02PM
It would appear that the vast majority of fanboys, PSP or DS or XBOX HUEG or otherwise, are just like Americans. Can't take jokes. Learn how to laugh at stuff
Drew @ Feb 20th 2007 11:42PM
.... David you are so fucking retarded... idk who you think you are, making fun of the psp and all that, acting like a fuckin 8 year old with a serrious disability.. all that.. You're pretty much giving psp-lovers, like me, a bad impression of this site. I completely agree with #3 about this getting more and more childish... DONT COMPARING DEVICES
You should really do some research on psp games and actually play them instead of using it to look at your gay porn and shit... Sure, it has flaws, but doesnt everything? Another thing is that the DS games never go down, as said in comment #2.. As another comment said, i agree that kindergarteners
DO NOT need internet. DS's games are the dumbed-down ones, not psp's. And enough with the "Oh no, the psp lacks good games!" shit. that was only true for about the first six months of the release. Heres some: Wipeout pure
MGS: PO
Socom FTB 1&2
Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters
Ace Combat X
Daxter
Pirates
Winning Eleven
Tales of Eternia
Lumines 1&2
GTA VCS
GTA LCT
Killzone Liberation
Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror
The Warriors
Medal of Honor: Heros
Megaman Maverick Hunter X
Ridge Racer

ac @ Feb 21st 2007 3:07AM
david i support you. psp has lost the battle, and now a lot of sore losers are coming out of the woodwork. reminds me of that kid on the basketball court that talked a lot of smack, then lost convincingly but is still talking smack and still won't shut up. the DS is a superior gaming portable period. trade your psp to play the future of portable gaming. is that not the truth? and grab a wii while you're at it for an impulse buy.
Strangler @ Feb 21st 2007 5:05AM
"If I wanted to play those kinds of games, I would just play them on the big screen via console."
so what kinds of games do you want to play? 2d games? than why do games on the psp like megaman powered up (best megaman game evr with 100 new challenges and an online mode), ghosts and goblins, loco roco, and exit sell so bad if those are the games people want on a portable?
Tamyu @ Feb 21st 2007 5:18AM
Hmm... What do I dislike about the PSP? The fact that the first 3 we bought were broken.
When we went to exchange the third, we just asked for a refund and gave up.
If something is so fragile that it can`t make it from manufacturing to me without breaking along the line, it`s definitely not something I want to carry around.
As for games, etc, it isn`t something I`d mind having... But the awful experience there at the beginning has totally turned me off of it. I might buy one when they`ve dropped the price more. While I see more and more games planned for the DS, I don`t see many I`m interested in planned for the PSP.
Sgrstck @ Feb 21st 2007 6:35AM
Holy fucking shit guys, it's a gaming device your defending here, not communist/capatalist ideas 0.o. who cares what other people think, if you like the psp great, other people might not, whatever, the world's not gonna end and sony/nintendo aren't gonna lose thousands of sales because of it.
Also: This post is obviously a joke. I mean come on, how could anyone take this seriously? He says they're illiterate for fuck's sake and he's a psoter at pspfanboy too. As that guy above me said, it's tongue-in-cheek fanboyism.
As for my opinion on the ds and psp; I've owned a ds since launch day and think it's great. Once it broke, I bought a ds lite. I'm on this site, so I'm obviously a huge fan of the device (especially with my g6lite ;]). As for the psp, I've been trying to buy one off of ebay recently. It does have a good selection of games now, and thanks to dark_alex; it's a great device for homebrew. Emulators work great, sony's ps1 being almost perfect. And despite the fileformat and batterylife issues, it is still a great media player; admit it, that screen is awesome.
peace,
Matt

I love the comparison of the obviously non-serious jabs at the PSPfanboys to that of slapping a 4 year old and calling it funny.
Slapping a 4 year old wouldn't be funny, but slapping a grown man or an obnoxious teenager than acts like a 4 year old after being slapped? That IS funny.
Darkfly @ Feb 21st 2007 12:46PM
First the DS is good but the PSP is good, the battery life on my PSP lasts 5-6 hours while gaming(good for me),the PSP has an excellent library of games Syphon FIlter,LocoRoco,GTA,Test Drive:Unlimited,Metal Gear:PO,Ratchet & Clank,Daxter,Lumines,Medal of Honor,Wipeout Pure I could go on and on.The DS has only a slightly better battery life, and the DS's library is very good but recently has suffered with only Japanese games coming out with only a small margin of the games are from the West, last good game on the DS was Metroid Prime(don't care for any type of puzzle games & never liked Spuer Mario in 2D,only 3D).They are equal but in different ways but the PSP I think has a slightly better gaming libary.I also own the DS and play both consoles evenly.
Darkfly @ Feb 21st 2007 12:49PM
Oh and PSPfanboy rarely ever make fun of the DS but you DSfanboy take it to far poking fun in their faces & making harsh comments which 25+ million people(number of PSP sold) would say other wise.I love my DS but I'm fed up of you in particular DSfanboy being immature.
Biphster @ Feb 21st 2007 3:59PM
I find amusing how you can trade the DS... for.. wait for it... A DS! Is it just me or is that completely contradictory? So is cosmetic surgery the future? I think EB are being "fattist".
If I wanted a Stylus based device, I'd have bought an iPaq... OH! Hang on I DID!! 6 YEARS AGO!! well fuck me for innovation.. cheers HP!
I'm a 31 year old run of the mill bloke with a family that likes to do more things than FUN FUN FUN *GRIIIN* stuff with my portable entertainment thingy. To me, a game can be FUN, yes.. but also, relaxing or even draw a bit of sadness or even anger!! Thats why I like the diversity of Sony games. I particularly look forward to flOw on PS3 and hope they will make a version for PSP in the future.
I like watching recorded tv or the odd movie in bed here and there just before sleep, The wife can lay and hog the bedroom tv all she likes! cozy! Its easy on PSP.
I like litsening to music on my way to work and at work continue listening on my speaker dock, its easy on PSP.
I like listening to podcasts streamed off the internet at the flick of a wireless lan switch so im not having to wait for the damn thing to download to a mac/pc and then have to be transferred (like on ipod). Its easy on PSP.
I like that I can browse the net for free whilst taking a shit (the idea of fumbling with an opera cart and that damn stylus whilst concentrating on a shit scares the hell out of me). Its easy on PSP.
I have 12 games for my PSP and I play it nearly every night after a hard days work (and putting the kid to bed). I partucularly like Tekken: DR at the moment. That game makes me PISSED with anger at times! oh.... I guess that makes it shit, right?
For me its not just because the graphics are better, its because the games, in my opinion, are much more my style than the stuff on DS. And the PSP lets me do lots of other things throughout the day with little fuss. I only really game in an evening so to have a device that can do lots of other stuff I enjoy is fantastic! Im not one for carrying 16 different gadgets, I like my one simple PSP. Simple as that.
WOOHOO!! I copy and paste from PSPfanboy... A bit like this "blog" does.
1001 things to do with a DS Stylus: -
#1 - Stick it carefully in a fresh poo.

What's funny: People pointing the finger of fanboyism who are themselves clearly plat-biased and single-system fanboys.
What's sad: That people still think the PSP lacks good, or original, games - or that it's 'not fun'.
What's flattering: That someone claimed 'in before' me.
What's lame: Impersonating The Yoon.
What's hypocritical: DS fans accusing PSP fans of being defensive or insulting.
What's hypocritical: DS bashing PSP fanboys commenting in this thread.
What's getting old: People who claim their PSP 'sits there collecting dust' when they haven't bought, rented or looked at any new games in the last few months. Here's a tip: Go look.
What's irritating: Fanboys who see things in black & white instead of competition being good for everybody. Those of us who have both can see how either company has pushed the other into better hardware and better games in this case. Regardless of who has sold how many more units than the other, it's been a damned good couple of years for handheld gamers.
hangerggg @ Feb 22nd 2007 1:49AM

Are you fuckin shitting me.
I rememeber when the gamecube came out even though it had good games was made fun of all the immature sony fanboys.
Also the reason pspfanboy doesent make fun of the ds is because the ds is kicking the psps ass in sales.
Why do you think they stoped posting the sales figures on there.
Shane @ Feb 22nd 2007 10:30PM
"Why do you think they stoped[sic] posting the sales figures on there."
Why does DSFanboy continue to post the sales figures? Do you need your choice in console justified by seeing how many other people bought it? If you like your handheld go out and let the games make your purchase worthwhile.
I really want to when being a fanboy changed from being a fan of a system to bashing another? I love my PSP but I don't need to bash the DS. I don't like the style of most of the games on the DS but I don't go out saying that the DS has a "lack of good games".
Shane @ Feb 22nd 2007 10:34PM
