Wii Warm Up: Vintage Nintendo Power content coming to the VC?
In our fit of righteous anger over the idea of delaying Metroid Prime 3 again, we missed an interesting aside Reggie dropped at the recent DICE conference -- the idea that old Nintendo Power content may turn up on the Virtual Console. While the idea of reliving some of our greatest memories of gaming journalism is intriguing, we're as yet undecided on how we feel about this one. We could go either way, depending on how it's offered. We are, after all, largely concerned with hoarding our money like the misers we are for games ... but if the price is right, we could throw down with some retro mags. How about you?[Thanks, Robert!]

I would have 0 interest in paying for Nintendo Power on the VC. For one, I already have a huge stack of Nintendo Powers in my collection. And I don't even read those. If they were *free*, I probably wouldn't even download them (unless there's a Wii harddrive in the works).

if offered for free, i *might* look at it, but would never pay for this.

Where's the Nintendo Fun Club issues? I want 'em. That's real Nin-fandom.

Uhm why would i pay for images of old magazines? I dont think Id be interested even if they were free.

I'd be cool with some free Howard and Nester comics, just for nostalgia's sake. I have a couple of old NP magazines around here, somewhere.

Look guy's I LOVE what the Big N is trying to do with the VC but this is a little off the track!! How about offering a "Wii all vote" type of campaign and give the paying public a clear choice of what NEW "Old" VC games they want to see!! That would make more sense than this. Not to mention, if this were NEW infomation on up and coming titles for the DS, GBA and Wii it would be GREAT. They would have to offer this service for FREE if they wanted anyone to even bother opening it up!!

I think ya got the wrong NP there. He was probably refering to the "Nintendo Power" download service that japan has had until recently, as opposed to the US magazine. The Japan-only service alowed you to download games and such to discs at convenience stores and the like.

No way would I pay to read old magazines. I barely care to pay to read new ones.
So Nintendo, when are some, uh, Wii games actually going to be available for our, uh, Wii system?
And don't try to tell me that any game out there is not just a revamped GameCube game! And Wii sports/Wii play doesn't cut it.

This is a horrible idea.

Latest news and such wouldn't be a bad idea, but only if it was delivered to my Wii inbox. Old news, on the other hand, would be a bit pointless.

I think this channel could be a great if it's free for everyone or Nintendo Power subscribers. (Really nice and cheap promotional tool to boost circulation.) But I wouldn't pay for it otherwise. The magazine was never that good and a proper search of the 'net will get you electronic copies for free.

Why are they waisting their time with retro magazines? How about they bring more games to the virtual console? Come one two N64 games!
Algernon @ Feb 18th 2007 9:51PM
Why do they waste their time on this... get better solutions for the wii friend codes or make the SD cards more useful by allowing to run saves off of them...
Steve 3.2 @ Feb 19th 2007 12:11PM
@ 12 - You could load up hundreds of NES, SNES, Genesis, and TG-16 games on your Wii and have room to spare. But N64 games were anywhere from 4-64 MBs in size. (I think RE2 and Conker were the only two 64MB games.) So too many of those bigger games may quickly fill the 512 MB in the Wii and force people to buy an SD Card or stop buying games. (Yes, they could delete some games and redownload them in the future, but who read that in the manual or wants to do that regularly?)
