Gamestop wants your Twilight Princess, we hate them that much more
Seriously, how messed up is it for a store that just sold you the game to call you and tell you to bring it on back in. See, the individual this happened to made one mistake: he pre-ordered the game. So after getting it a long ways back and enjoying it (as one does), he was shocked to later receive a call from GameStop's automated calling service. The message said "We hope you're enjoying your copy of Twiliight Princess, but if you're finished with it, why don't you bring it to the store and trade it in? We're willing to give you $35 in trade for your copy of Twilight Princess...." It was at that point he hung up, in utter disgust we imagine. What kind of company does this sort of thing? Oh right, GameStop, now we know why we never shop there.

And this here is why Gamestop/EB has been pushing so much harder lately to get us to preorder games instead of just buying them, how annoying...
I'll never preorder something with them again.
TicalWRX @ Feb 16th 2007 4:00PM
I dont think its that bad of an idea. If you bought a game and finished it, a lot of times you wont play it again. Personally I wouldnt have bothered to find out how much the game was worth on a trade in. The automated call might just get rid of a game I wasnt going to play again, and now I can put that money towards a new game.

Prompted by the call, I went for the deal. . . but only because I'd completed the game (poes, heart pieces, everything) and when you combine the $35 trade-in with the frequent buyer card and a recent coupon from a Game Informer, you come out with $42 in credit. This will score you another used Wii game (or whatever else you'd want) after the various discounts. Current-game-for-current-game trade would always be good for me on sites like gametz.com, but if I suppose without the extra discounts/credit I would have avoided going to GS again.
Oh, and a note on the trade-in--according to the message, the $35 amount is only good through Wednesday. The coupon came out of GI issue #166, and goes through 2/28/07.

Maybe it's because I rarely sell any of my games, but I still find preordering and trading at GameCrazy a much better and easier experience.

Yeah... I got that call and I was like... "Are you serious?" I just deleted my voice mail and continued on with my life...

I refuse to preorder anything. As far as software goes, if the company can easily produce tons, and I know it wants my money. So why on earth should I make a commitment?
tripleanica @ Feb 16th 2007 7:24PM
even though i hate gamestop, this is actually a pretty good deal, i mean, considering it's gamestop. usually they give you a lot less for trade-ins, at least from what i've experienced. but i wouldn't do it, even if i don't play a game ever again (wind waker) it's nice to have around, or maybe i'll play it 5 years from when i first beat it and remember how great the game actually is.
WhackMushrooms @ Feb 16th 2007 7:33PM
$35 bucks! i got $30 when i traded mine in at gamecrazy in mid december when i smashed the game at 101% completion .. if your done with it and you can get $35 bucks for it that almost selling it at a profit .. there are tons of zeldaTPs .. eventually they will cost 5 bucks.

Hey, asshole. You guys are too damn subjective, everything you write is you're opinion, you act like your speaking for all of us or the majority. Come on, who cares that game stop called you, who cares that they are trying to run a business? Lots of people trade in their games, and lots of people would trade a game that they are done with once its worth more money. Most games only trade in for 25 tops, so 35 is a reason to call someone.
And out of all of us, how many really just "dont shop at game stop" are you kidding? Learn to be objective, not subjective. It's surprised that you actually have a job in the media.
Raycer @ Feb 16th 2007 10:00PM
Well EBgames and Gamestop do suck overall, (always hounding you to preorder and never seem to have enought of anything to fill their orders, little alone thier shelves); but I can see the idea behind the call though I would not like to receive a telemarketing phone call from a store, which is what it basically is.
I myself never trade in games or systems as I rather keep them for collecting, nostalgia and replay value than get a few bucks back. I've beaten most of my games but can't seem to let them go.
Prof-KOS @ Feb 16th 2007 10:35PM
Wow Nick Huber,
You really need to get a grip. As I read your post I could actually hear you yelling the comment at your screen. Many people have a problem with the trade-in deals at Gamestop or EBgames. Them phoning to harass you to sell, not just in-store is just too much.
Soiden @ Feb 16th 2007 11:26PM
Lucky me, here we don't have any of those weird stores.
neoimmortal @ Feb 17th 2007 2:41AM
I too got that call, but what is totally messed up is that I pre-ordered but didnt buy from them since it was included in my ebay order.. now that pisses me off because they didnt even bother to see if the pre-order was filled. same thing happened with sbc calling me to upgrade internet package, then getting my hopes up, and then being dashed because they didnt realize i already have the fastest available connection.. these companies need to do their research before calling me, but i know they wont.
d3vkit @ Feb 17th 2007 7:05AM
I did the same thing - preordered but never bought. I didn't mind the call that much, except that the automated service had trouble with my answering machine, and I couldn't tell for a few minutes what had happened. I was worried it was telling me about a pr-order coming in; since I haven't been there for a few months that would be bad.
adam @ Feb 17th 2007 9:56AM
35 bucks is not a bad deal, if your willing to part with your game, but I will never sell another game, just so in a few years I would have to buy it again to download onto another system, doesnt make any damn sense.
Plus Gamestop is a ripoff. This is probably the best deal Ive seen from them though. If it were any other game youd be lucky to get 10% of thats games worth, then they go and sell it for a few dollars under the retail price. To me that is a rip off and not looking out for the consumers. Your better off renting a game and paying a late fee so you can beat it.
I can honestly say I avoid Gamestop completely. I tried to buy a used DS Lite there and they wanted to sell it for 5 dollars lower than retail! And the guy even told me they gave the previous owner 50 bucks for it. And this was a time that the DS Lite just came out. I walked out, and that was the last time I went to gamestop.
@#9 - Shut up, and think about what your going to say before you start running your mouth.
Vinhchenzo @ Feb 17th 2007 8:54PM
Every game that I ever preordered or what not, I could have picked up at Best Buy, Circuit City, Fry's etc. I will NEVER buy anything from EB or specialized retail outlets again. They really emphasize and create an artificial demand on their products.. oh and they suck for selection.. go to frys and see what a real gaming section should be. They even carry game selections from overseas.
J-Dizzle @ Feb 18th 2007 2:20PM
Even if I beat it 10 times I'd never get rid of a piece of gaming history
