IGDA to honor Miyamoto's lifetime achievements

Next month's Game Developers Choice Awards are set to feature someone very close to our hearts. Shigeru Miyamoto, the daddy of all good things Nintendo, is going to receive this year's Lifetime Achievement award. The official announcement lauds Miyamoto's two decades of contributions to Nintendo, highlighting his involvement in all the best games ever. Previous recipients include Yuji Naka and Will Wright, and while they're great and all, frankly we're surprised they don't hook Miyamoto up with this award every year.

Ya know, I realize that this comment will be slightly irrelevant to the post, but... when I saw that picture of him there, I thought "Willy Wonka" for some reason.

A comparison of Shiggy to Willy Wonka makes perfect sense. They're both geniuses and yet a little crazy.

They should take Yuji Naka's away.

...and give it to Miyamoto. He's done enough for two lifetime achievement awards, dammit.

Go Shiggy Go!

Alisha: Super Mario Bros. and the original Zelda each warrant a Lifetime Achievement award. But I know Miyamoto hasn't really had much to do with games since then. I wonder what he's actually done, besides being a "producer" and basically a mascot?

If this list is correct, then Miyamoto is directing Mario Galaxy, and it's his first time directing a game since Ocarina in 1998 and Mario Artist (Japan-only 64DD) in 1999. He's back!
