Namco-Bandai reveals Quickspot

Hot off the press wire, word comes to us that Namco-Bandai has a new game in the works for the DS called Quickspot. Releasing this Spring, the game is to be a full-on compare-and-contrast game. See, the two screens are to display almost identical images, and the player must circle the differences on the touch-screen. Makoto Iwai, Executive Vice President and COO at NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. goes on to say Quickspot "offers hours of fun for those with quick minds and fast reflexes as it takes a simple concept and turns it into an exciting and addicting brain game perfectly suited for gamers on the go."

Personally, we worry if the game will have enough depth, as the release states it will contain only three single player modes, which include Rapid Play (5 levels each containing 10 stages) , Focus Mode (140 different pictures with 10 differences each) and Today's Fortune (provides health, study, romance and money fortune for the day). We've included several screenshots past the post break.

What a tease! I saw the Taiko shot before I read the news post, and it was a huge letdown to hear that this is a "where's Waldo" type of game.

Come on, Namco! Give us Katamari and Taiko and Klonoa on the DS, not a sad reminder of their absence!!

Looks fun. As long as it's not too expensive. I'm sure this wass out in in Japan about a year ago actually, but I can't remember the title. Anyone?

I played a friends imported (and obviously un-localised) version of this game a while back. I have to admit I was surprised how compelling spot the difference can become.
They tie in your reaction time to your score, which really piles on the tension when you know there is one difference left but you just can't spot it. Other modes include spotted differences between animated screens. I believe there was even a battle mode.
It also wonderfully plunders Taiko/Namco intellectual property along the way. Many a retro memory was jogged in my short session. And the whole package is nicely understated.
One to look out for. No really!

This could actually be good if they put some real programming into it. All they need is a library of items and they can then use some random generators to either put a few extra items in and/or leave a few items out of each picture. Sadly, they'll probably only have one 'solution' per picture. Oh well.

What the shit, Namco. First that other crap DS game, now this? Where the hell is Tales of the goddamn Tempest already?! Kids can find this garbage in the Sunday paper without paying $34.99, give us a real game!

When they do release it, I hope they put a sensible price tag on it. Even though I enjoyed it for an evening's play, I think I'd only pay 20 GBP for it, but not alot more.

Do not take this game at face value, its easily one of the most addicting and fun DS games around. I've been playing the import version since the start of the year. Definitely worth checking out especially if you are a big fan of Namco and the "Find the differences" puzzles in newspapers.

Give it a chance... I'm thrilled to see its getting a US release.
