Wii Warm Up: Bring on the 3rd party Wiimotes

The rumor about Mad Catz Wiimotes isn't exactly the most reliable bit of gossip we've heard all year, but it does raise an interesting topic. Would you buy a third party Wii remote? Certainly the lack of regular Wiimotes on store shelves is a problem, but does that balance against the general quality of most (not all) third party peripherals? Is the price a factor? Wiimote and nunchuk sets are somewhat expensive, but is it worth saving a few bucks to wave something like this around? We're trying not to make any many jokes about the wavy shape here, but they're lurking in the tall grass. So what's the verdict on this rumored remote? We want to hear what you think!

3rd party wii remote? never. if they can't get something right like a standard controller which is just a collection of button activated switches on a board why would they be able to perfect motion sensors? i'll wait for nintendo to manufacture enough wii remotes, thanks.

From a well known, reputable brand I would yeah. In New Zealand we get reamed over the cost of Wiimotes and Nunchucks. To get both will cost you NZ$150 whic is about US$105.

How about a 3rd party Controller holder. My living room is a mess with all my wiimotes, nunchucks, GC controlers, Games, Ect.
FuzzyPickles @ Jan 16th 2007 9:56AM
Hell no.
Oh look at the time. On to Toys R Us to pick up the wiimote and nunchuk my coworker put in a drawer for me, to keep out of reach of those pesky beings some like to call "customers".

I never bought a third party remote, or if I was forced too (IE System was really old) I was sorely disappointed
My brother almost threw away a game cube because it locked up all the time.
Come to find out, it was his third party controller doing it, not the system. He found this out when he got the second gamecube and it promptly died. My Dad got one for free after that.

Let's see there are universal remotes for all the latest TV and video how about a universal controller. That would solve iveo mess and mine too.

If logitech made one I would buy it. I have their wireless controller for my PS2 and it works great, rumbles and has excellent battery life...

Jay @#1 says exactly that I'm thinking... plus I have small hands and 3rd party controllers are often bigger than the regular ones. I think the last time we relied on cheap extras was back in the day of N64 when we played so much Goldeneye that we had to have some extras because we went through controllers so fast... I always demanded the right to play with an actual Nintendo controller because I don't have giant man hands.
Travis makes a good point, though -- Logitech's stuff is pretty universally great. It would be interesting to see what they would do, if they made one.

im gonna say yes, i want 3rd party remotes. Uh guys, most of you are looking at the bad design and saying "no" well all i have to say that if logitech makes one, it will probably be as good as the regular wiimotes. Besides, i hate paying $60 just so one of my friends can play too. i have seen great, and horrible, 3rd party controllers, but i think the 3rd party devs can make a good looking wiimote for well under $40. And hopefully a better speaker :)

I will never buy 3rd party remotes. Not since the N64 Bond days, I bought three so we could all play, ALL three were non-functional, and then 6 (after exchanges, then money back.... bought 3 NIN brand, worked flawlessly... actually, they still do.
We buy 3rd party controllers for about a buck, whenever we sell them, people ALWAYS bring them back. so if they STILL can't get a plain old PS2 controller functional, why would I buy something more complex from them?
This also goes for 3rd party Memory cards, DO NOT BUY THEM EVER!

We wouldn't need third party stuff if Nintendo discontinued the Gamecube.
C'mon let's face it. The sooner Nintendo stops making GCN units, the faster the Wii and accessories will become available in stores. (which is good news for me concidering I STILL don't have a Wii)

I'd like it if the controller had a built-in vertical offset dial. Something small and recessed, next to the IR sensor on the end of the Wiimote. That would be nice.

Dildo
That's all i have to say

I didn't like 3rd party controllers on my NES, and I wont like 3rd party controllers on the wii...
I made the mistake of buying a 3rd party xbox controller because the regular ones never dropped in price (and they cost more then a wireless gamecube one)... And that was a big mistake... what a piece of junk
shadowchaoscontrol @ Jan 17th 2007 6:42AM
i'd buy one if it was made from a better company, this madcatz one looks like it has a better grip
Chris @ Jan 19th 2007 12:40PM
I normally would, but I feel that the controller needs perfection this time around
