Elebits gets renamed for Europe
Turns out, upon releasing to Europeans this Spring, Elebits is to receive a change of name. Apparently, the word 'bit' is a bit 'o English slang, which is defined as:Bit: Noun. A woman. Abb. of 'bit of fluff' or 'bit of skirt', generally a person viewed sexually. Derog.
Eledees is going to be the new moniker by which hunting small electrical creatures in a wide variety of environments will be called in the PAL territory. While both names share a piece of the ridiculous pie, we wonder which one has taken the bigger slice?

I dunno, i some how seem "Ladies" in "Eledees".
I've only ever heard "bit on the side" in stereotypical soaps too. I hate this renaming thing, it never crossed my mind as sexist.

Elebits was fine, it makes more sense, I mean it's more than just SLANG here, but bits and bytes etc.

I don't care if they rename it, but to use some half-baked political correctness argument as an excuse is outright absurd. I'm happing living in a world full of blacks, retards and cripples where a man can get a good bit of ass on the side without affecting some pansies' delicate sensibilities.

That info is just plain wrong....
In the 2 expressions "a bit of fluff", or "a bit of skirt", it is the words "fluff" and "skirt", rather than the "bit" that signify a promiscuous wowman, or a woman you are having an affair, or just a woman you might currently be "seeing"
To change the name of this game based on the reasoning given here would be like removing the word "head" from a game title because the word "dick", whilst not actually in the title, COULD also be put in front of it.

Given how small our little world has come since the early days in this industry, can you even get away with such goofy name changing nonsense and not have people notice?
Changes like "Teenage Mutant HERO Turtles", "Probotector" (Contra) and so forth might have flown back then, but nowadays people are well aware of what's coming out for their consoles in other countries. They can't really baby us anymore. :P

Ooops, no, nintendowiifanboy.com has got this one a bit wrong.
Seemingly you looked up 'bit' on peevish.co.uk and found the entry you quoted in the post. What you didn't do was scroll down to the entry on 'bits' - as in, 'my skirt was so short people could see my bits'.
I've always thought 'Elebits' sounded like an elephant's private parts, so I'm not surprised they did, too.

agreed #13. "bits" is used by my kids as slang for their undercarriage, so having a game about Ele Bits on the Wii would have raised a great titter here. I think it was just a pants name, and they are taking the opportunity to put it right. But Eledees? I suppose it's a bit better.
