Japanese hardware sales, 4 December - 10 December: Terminator edition
Listen to me. I've been sent from the future, sent to warn you about the impending destruction of the human race. There were so many, we just couldn't ... we were overwhelmed within weeks. Humans now live in scattered clusters, fearful of the raids, desperately clinging to life. We need to stop it. They're gaining power.Surely, you've seen the signs. They're infecting homes, complacent, waiting for their chance to strike. Soon, their numbers will be unstoppable, and you're allowing, nay, helping their cause. Every week they grow stronger! They added what will be their strongest general, Dragon Quest, to their arsenal quite recently. Yes, surely you see it now: within two months, the DS Lites will become sentient. They'll launch a attack on the Pentagon and all major military bases in the continental United States, removing our defensive capabilities. From then on, it'll be inevitable ... Judgement Day.
From their seat of power in Akihabara, Japan (the new capital of Nitro, their self-proclaimed worldwide empire), they will launch wave after wave of attack on the remaining humans. We're led by the one man who might rally us from defeat ... Reggie, of course. He sent me here, to prevent it, but now I see that it's already too late. February 13th is the day, gentlemen. May Iwata have mercy on your pathetic souls.

Ouch.
Wii went down. PS3 went up?
Odd...
Pedro @ Dec 16th 2006 11:10PM
It's a production thing. The ps3 only has to supply 2 areas, america and Japan. Nintendo has to supply america, Japan, and europe all with monre numbers than the ps3 had.
They simply don't have enough wii units to sell. Think of it this way. Sales dropped by 75% or so, while ps3 sales went up 60%. And the wii is still selling better per week than the ps3 did at launch.

2. PS3 went up because more became available, Wii went down because there are less than at launch.

Wait, your saying Nintendo dropped the ball, in their own country?!?!

"Wait, your saying Nintendo dropped the ball, in their own country?!?!"
Let's not forget that it's Sony's country too.

Good gravy! (Oh thank you, it's just brown and water)
I guess Blue Dragon, GOW, and PS3 shortages had something to do w/that.

I really want to find the wii for my son, it is so hard finding one, i dont know how many times we have been to gamestop, best buy, target, etc,
Marc @ Dec 17th 2006 6:47PM
KIM,
just give up, sit your son down, and explain to him that a Wii won't be comming anytime soon.
Cuz you are just like me, and the countless other people who cannot get a Wii (or don't feel like camping out at night in front of a store, looking like a complete idiot).
So just keep reminding yourself, there are more people without a Wii than there are with one.
My advice is to wait until after the holiday rush. Or better yet, go on Ebay and spend $400+ for a Wii (your son's worth it, right?).

How many people are there in Japan? I mean there has to be a saturation point. How many people dont have a DS over there?

$200 Wii?
More colors coming?
More online content?
Technical upgrades?
(Sales dropping?!?)
Tush @ Dec 18th 2006 11:16AM
Ichiro, the only upgrade they'll possibly have is the ability to play DVD's. They wouldn't change too much because then they would be alienating all their early adopters.
For example, GBA->SP or DS->DSlite. The SP and the lite have better screens and batteries but can't do anything that the their original counterparts couldn't do in terms of software and ability to play games.
Ichiro @ Dec 18th 2006 6:47PM
Tush, I totally agree with you.
(I did not mention any "Wii 2", "Wii 3", or "Wii 360")
But isn't it (colors, online content, DVD) enough to raise the Wii sales again?

"[I] don't feel like camping out at night in front of a store, looking like a complete idiot" ~ Marc
I take offense to that. I camped out for a mere 2 hours on launch day and I have a Wii. There were people who waited a lot longer than I did; some of them got Wiis and some of them didn't; either way I got nothing against them. I didn't have a mirror with me so I don't know what I *looked* like... but I sure didn't *feel* like a complete idiot. I guess I'm just dedicated and you're not.
I'm not trying to "rub it in your face" or anything, just please don't call us REAL fanboys complete idiots.
