Revenant Wings gameplay shots
And with the screens come the new details. We've already heard that the battle system for FFXII: Revenant Wings will be a simplified version of that in FFXII proper, with specialized stylus functionality -- now we see it in (still) action. Now we also know there is no battle screen -- all fights take place in real time, and the player uses the stylus to position characters for battle. Sounds like a lot for the DS to handle, and we can't wait to see it in action.Check out a few more shots from Vaan and Penelo's upcoming adventure after the jump.

Hey, this game looks better and better! Now all we need is video footage of the game and I'll be in FF heaven!

Frickin' awesome. But, maybe Square Enix could, you know, actually release FFXII in Europe first of all. The way things are going FFXII's sequel will already be out in Japan by the time the orignal gets to Europe...

Wooo, this looks pretty! Reminds me of the SoM/SD series...
Squeenix is really loving the DS!

I don't normally post for good graphics, but these screenshots look very impressive especially for a DS.
Additionally, it looks like there may be at least 4 maximum characters in your party judging from one of the screens. Amazing.

I'm not a fan of SE's recent milking, but I'm okay with anything that produces a nice-looking 2D RPG like this.

Indeed, is it just me, or are 2D RPGs with brilliant art like this more enjoyable than 3D ones? I've always loved 2D RPGs.
With all due respect,
Fox

@4: I've always loved 2D RPG's as well. 3D RPG's just seem out of place. Although FFIII did a pretty good job of proving me wrong.

Yeah, I really like old school type 2D RPGs but 3D RPGs have their merits too. It's kind of more fun with a 2D RPG though, not sure why. I played Tales of Phantasia (on zsnes, never had a SNES) and Fable this summer and I must say Tales was way more fun, although Fable was an interesting concept. Turn based ftw, I guess.

it's becoming more and more like Square back in SNES days with every title they announce...

Looking at those shots, specially the red bridge shot, I'd say those are 2D sprites on a 3D rotatable background. It's hard to tell from those small shots, but the edges looks a little rough for a 2D background.

Thanks for this news.

The battle shot looks like it came out of Lost Magic. While a good game, the real time combat lacked any depth besides casting the same spells over and over again. I hope this goes a little deeper with the combat.
