Konami bringing new Yu-Gi-Oh! game to DS

Konami has announced that they're bringing Yu-Gi-Oh! Spirit Caller to the US. With a release date of early January 2007, card-flipping fanatics will get their chance to cut teeth on a new Yu-Gi-Oh! adventure. With the start of a brand new year at Duel Academy, a wave of excitement has hit all the students as they desire to start.

The player, in being placed in the Slifer Red Dorm, strange things begin to occur and the player begins hearing the voice of the spirit duelist. Apparently, the spirit duelist is a good fellow, as it will help you in dueling and solving the new mysteries surrounding the academy.

Game features include:

Head to head worldwide dueling via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection
Based on the top-rated Yu-Gi-Oh! GX series from Cartoon Network
Includes over 1,400 cards
Create and edit the look of your character
Each game includes three exclusive trading cards

I may not play the actual game anymore but dueling online is pretty cool to finally have, I think. Of course, its based off of GX so there lies reluctance.

The only reason I didn't buy Nightmare Troubadour after renting it is I knew they'd make a wi-fi YGO on DS eventually. Took a bit longer than I'd hoped but I'm definitely getting it ASAP.

For those who just can't wait, this game should be available now from your import dealer of choice, under the title "Spirit Summoner." It's been discovered that the Japanese release of the game contains both Japanese and English game text (dialogue, card text, etc.), depending on the OS language of your handheld when you start a new game.

In other words, if your DS is set to use English in the firmware menus, you'll get almost the exact same experience you would if you had bought the US release, barring any typo corrections or bugfixes. Or, you can set your DS to Japanese, start up a new game, and play it in that language. The language preference is stored in the save file, so you can start a game in Japanese and then switch the OS back to English, if that tickles your fancy�the game will still play in Japanese.
