Rumor: Shadowman on its way to the VC

One of our readers, who must be a HUGE Shadowman fan, recently sent an email to Valiant Entertainment, the folks who own the rights to the N64 installment of the game, asking if the game would grace the Virtual Console. Upon sending the email, he received a surprising response:

"Thank you for your interest. Yes, we have been speaking with Nintendo regarding Shadowman for the Virtual Console. Although, they have a ton of games to review and select from, Shadowman is on their radar."

So they've been speaking to Nintendo? Great, we guess, as the more game to grace the Virtual Console the better. We cannot comment on whether we're excited or not, never having played the game ourselves. How many of you have played the game and would like to see it on the Virtual Console?

this is cool, I hope a lot of dreamcast games get onto the vc I used to play mine religiously. although I never got into shadowman, didn't like the gameplay that much - I don't be spending my wiipoints on it :(

I LOVED Shadow Man on N64. I remember being simultaneously surprised at how big the game world was, and stunned that I was able to navigate it without getting lost or turned around. This might not be so much about the game design, and more about that this was around the time I was getting pulled into video games in a serous way. Not sure.

There were also a couple enemies that would give me chills as they charged me. Again, attribute this to my not having played Resident Evil or much survival horror at the time (though this doesn't really fall into that genre).

I seem to recall the game being a big deal (to some of us) because it's protagonist was an African-American male--the first? Again, not sure.

The fact that Vodun (voodoo) iconography and beliefs figured into it so prominently was a big plus for me. I didn't get the impression that they were just tacked on for effect's sake, though I'm sure some of this was part of it. Oh! And the fact that Shadow Man was an English Lit. grad student (or something like that) sealed the deal for me. :-)

I still have the game and my N64, so I prolly won't spend points on it. Not sure how it holds up after all this time, but I really liked it and finished it. Like most games, the ending was disappointing and rushed. And the sequel that came out on PS2 sucked big time. But I would recommend it.

@ ozy: This would be the N64 version not the dreamcast. Strictly Dreamcast games wont be showing up on the VC. At least nothign has ben announced on that front.

Awesome, i wasn't expecting my news info to be posted but hey, thats good stuff. Shadowman 64, you seriously havent played it. It was one of 'those' games that had the graphics beefed up with the n64 ram expansion pack. It had our main hero travelling from 'liveside' to 'darkside', travelling back and forth to unlock new areas. Liveside had real world dual-wielding weapons (twin shotguns FTW) and darkside had voodoo weapons. it was gory, creepy (very creepy) and a nice LONG game. Check out the link:

The 2nd shadowman game wasn't as good. That wikipedia entry is an excellent read. I am also trying to track down Forsaken 64 for VC, wish me luck!

I found shadowman to be a big disapointment. I was really looking forward to it at the time, but it played like any other generic 3d adventure game. Also, that level with the evil carnival music(and didn't have babies crying too?) made me distinctly uncomfortable after extended periods of play.

LOL, ahh yes i remember that creepy level with the carnival music and the crying babies, definatly disturbing stuff. My favourite parts were getting the tattoos that allowed you to be fire resistant, and chasing down/fighting Jack the Ripper.

I loved shadow man, I found it to be one of the most atmospheric and immersive games I've ever played. Unfortunately it was a bit cut down compared to the PC version, but the N64 game was still impressively large.

It's too bad Shadow Man never attained cult status - or maybe it became TRUE cult; living a hidden life away from the spotlight. I just don't know...

It would be cool to see it for the virtual console however.

HOLY F*CKIN SH!T!!! THis is my favourite game of all time... creeps me out so much, the atmosphere in the game made me constantly have tingles runing down my spine... WOAH!

If you haven't played this game... DO IT!

I was just asking my bro if he heard of any Shadowman being developed for Wii... I even toyed with the idea of dragging out the 64 to play it again! I do hope they release it for the VC at least, if they aren't developing a new one. Absolutely the creepiest gaming experience I have ever had, more unnerving than RE or Eternal Darkness ever were, and that says alot. There were some great creative minds at work on this one...

SHADOWMAN ROCKS!!! It is my absolute favorite game. I want so much to see it on Nintendo Wii!!!!!!! I have been waiting years for it to become another great game for another system, I want to play this game again and feel that I am literally in the game!!!! C'mon peeps vote for this game..

omg! awesome news... still got my n64 cart of this. Although its not a perfect game i really enjoyed this morbid game... was really awesome.

The psx version was rubbish, but the n64 and pc versions were great, as was the dreamcast version.

I remember this being one of the first games to rip off the zelda z-locking system which was a good thing :)
