Hacking the Wii: internet browsing very slowly

Turns out, all of you out there with shoulders shrugged as high as they go and mouths pouting like they've never pouted before, wondering exactly when you might be able to partake in online browsing through the Wii, can effectively stop what you're doing. As depicted in the video, which is embedded into the post past the break, browsing is possible!
It's just a little slow, is all ...

So far as I can tell, the reason this is slow is that there is some proxying going on where the HTML has to be downloaded to the guy's PC, reformatted (to include various JavaScript things, and then presented to the Wii, which then has to render the page itself. I think that actual browsing with the official Internet Channel should be faster than this. Maybe not by much though....

ok.. but are u gona tell us how u did it or wat caus i wana know!!!

he pretty much shows how he does it.
Here is how I think he's doing it:
1. Get the URL of the Wii shopping page (this was in a previous post)
2. Set up a machine as a DNS server and have it fake the Wii shopping zone and set the zone to redirect to Google.
3. Enter the fake DNS server IP into the Wii internet settings.
The Wii shopping channel is just a web viewer, albeit not a very good/full-featured one from what we can tell.

Now, certainly the Wii Shop Channel is a bit sparse-looking, but that is advantageous in the end, its Simple, and it gets the job done
But yes, the manner described above is the same way the GameCube was hacked, get an Online program and fool it into thinking your PC is the DNS, then have your PC run with it
(screwing around with IP settings is fun)

Anyone else catch the guy squishing the guy with the pointer on the digg page at 2:42 in the video?

Doesn't work, at least not the DNS that he uses. And at least for me.
When is Opera due out anyways?
The box says it's included.

As long as the browser comes out before i have to pay for it i'll wait for the offical item. i too want to know when surfing the web will be a service. i still have my box and as one of the most loyal fans you can believe me when i say the Opera logo is one on the Wii's box.
i am starting to think that maybe the hack is how you get browsing rights for free until june. i think i am going to wait just a while longer before hacking my Wii. a lot of it has to do with respecting my own code when it comes to stuff like that. my point is just wait if you're going to get it anyway, don't taint your systems if you don't have to.
