Metareview: Excite Truck

While we had plenty of time with Excite Truck, we haven't had time to get up our review (we'll get it up soon, we swear). While we wait, why not take a look at what some of the other reviewers out there are saying about the ramp-jumping, Wiimote-turning racer. Overall, reviews have been positive, however there have been a handful of those that feel the game is too simplistic or unfinished.
- GameSpot - 68%: "Excite Truck's control and speed give it a good amount of potential, but there just isn't enough of a game here to keep you excited for very long. Ultimately, it feels more like a tech demo than a full-fledged game."
- IGN - 80%: "Excite Truck is clearly a first generation console game that will, without a doubt be outdone in the Wii system's later years. But as a game that bursts right out of the gate as a launch title for the system, Excite Truck is a fulfilling, fun, energetic arcade-style racer that features a good balance of technology and technique. There are a few spots in places that could have been filled, like its weak two player option and trick system, but overall this game definitely pulls off the intense racing rush that quality arcade racers offer."
- Gamespy - 60%: "Like I said at the beginning of the review, I highly doubt Excite Truck will standout in anyone's memory past the end of the year. The lack of decent multiplayer and total lack of online play hurt the longevity, but if you absolutely need a racer to play at launch, you can't really do any better than this one."

I went to play wii and Excite Truck yesterday and when I got bored of watching others I decided to play the PS3 cause no one was playing it. Motor Storm I think it was..
It CRASHED as I was playing it. Screen completely froze. Manager had to reset the system. $600 for a system to CRASH?
good luck with all that, lol!
Excite Truck seems ok. I had more fun making a Mii with the controller. Love the way it vibrates on every Key on the keyboard on screen.

Way to deflect the suckiness of Excite Truck, Andy J... the PS3 kiosk crashing has nothing to do with how much Excite Truck sucks.

I got bored with this game after the first lap. It was worth it only because I knew the Wii really existed :)

Excite Truck is fun and will be great to play with my wife. Besides Mario Kart what was the last easy to pick up and fun racer? Excite Truck wins.

Excite Truck is pretty underwhelming. It looks nice and controls well, but not a game I can see myself owning. And you didn't miss anything, Andy J. MotorStorm isn't that much better. The kiosks never do have the best games, though. Shame this is the first metareview.

Excite Truck was tons of fun for me. I got off the road and weaved through several trees before getting back on the road. I got a 5 star reward for it. Interesting how they reward for what could be percieved as controller trouble...

I'm actually more happy than I was with Excite Truck than before I played it.. before, it was just a throwaway game. Now, I could at least see myself playing it for a good amount of time.
Doesn't make the game super awesome, though.

i actually really like excite truck. getting the controls takes alittle time, as it is alittle too sensitive for my tastes. i would certainly buy it if it was cheaper. it just doesnt make the cut for titles im picking up on day one.

I just must be special. I agree with the review done by IGN. I really liked Excitetruck. I liked it so much that I put my money down to buy it on launch day also. I love fast paced arcade racing games like this though. I guess it just goes to show you there's a game out there for everyone. I thought it was better than mortorstorm. I really don't like the feel of the ps3 controller for motion games. The changed L2 and R2 buttons to triggers just felt cheap to me also. I'm way more happy with the feel of the Wii. Motorstorm I felt tried to hard to be as real as possible. I'm playing a game not a movie. Sony is all about media and that is just not for me. I like fun so go Nintendo you did it this time.
