DS Fanboy introduces Game Night

That's right boys and girls, DS Fanboy is introducing a weekly community event called Game Night. We're looking to get our Wi-Fi fix on and who better to play with then our readers? Nobody, that's who! Every Tuesday night at 8PM EST, starting next week because we need a week to prepare everything, we're going to play a Wi-Fi Connect compatible game with the readers. For the first couple of nights, we'll play for only an hour and, if the demand is there, we can play longer. Every week we'll run a poll to see what game you all want to play, but seeing as how next Tuesday will be the first Game Night, we thought we'd celebrate the debut with the first Wi-Fi Connect compatible game that debuted in Mario Kart DS.
Next Tuesday we'll put up our friend codes and provide a link to the chat where we'll be hanging out, talking Nintendo and tossing shells. Thanks for reading and we hope to see you there!

Hopefully I can be there. Looking forward to it. :-)
With all due respect,

I'm up for this!
Alisha Karabinus @ Nov 14th 2006 4:16PM
It's going to be big fun. Wishnov has promised to smite everyone, so we're gonna need to band together and school him repeatedly.
Nushio @ Nov 14th 2006 4:18PM
Sign me up! I hope you guys do a followup for the Wii :D
Travis @ Nov 14th 2006 4:21PM
This a fantastic idea and I really look forward to joining you guys. My Wi-Fi games are Mario Kart, Metroid Prime Hunters, Animal Crossing, and Clubhouse Games. Take care!
Kev @ Nov 14th 2006 4:51PM
This is a great idea (though perhaps not so much after I get stomped). There are times when it seems like it takes forever to match a game of Metroid or Tetris; it'll be nice to have the forewarning that there will be a large group of gamers playing a particular game at a set time. I've got the same games as #5 (Travis), but add Tetris.
RobM @ Nov 14th 2006 4:48PM
Any day but Tuesday. I am busy every Tuesday night. :(
DiahrreaMan @ Nov 14th 2006 5:05PM
Awesome! I'm in. Sounds like it could have potential. My wifi games are Mario Kart, Metroid, and Animal Crossing. Hey, can we do an AC session to find the lost kittens? I've yet to do that, and I'd hoped to get most of the item available. Pleease? I suck at Metroid, I never last that much, unless its against people my rank (one star), and in Mario Kart, my score is 456 wins to 251 losses (WFC) and two stars. I'll have to brush up since I haven't played in a while.
20XX @ Nov 14th 2006 5:08PM
Neat idea. Too bad I don't have any WiFi-enabled games except for Animal Crossing, or I would TOTALLY lose to all of you. I'm not sure if you can even lose in Animal Crossing.
Andrew Yoon @ Nov 14th 2006 9:24PM
I'll be there. (Ultimate PSP versus DS battle?)
NotAwesome @ Nov 14th 2006 5:22PM
What took you so long? :-)
Hope finding one another for Kart racing isn't too difficult.
For Animal Crossing: WW, you can have an open gate night. Item swaps and "catalog hacking" are both possibilities (letting visitors pick up items so they appear in their town's catalog). I missed the Mario furniture series so looking to find peeps with extras.
Will @ Nov 14th 2006 5:42PM
Bomberman!
ConstyXIV @ Nov 14th 2006 6:26PM
Why not something now? Go into #dsfanboy on irc.freenode.net, and we can set stuff up. I've got MarioKart, Tetris, Clubhouse Games, Metroid Prime, and Downhill Jam.
I've also got Animal Crossing, but I haven't played in a loooooong time.
Yayo @ Nov 14th 2006 6:27PM
Hi,
I'm from Spain, I would like to know what the hell means "EST" so I can try syncronize myself with your timing...
Thanks!
Maxwell @ Nov 14th 2006 6:52PM
EST = electro shock therapy.
Other than the pain and trauma associated with shock therapy, I'm in for some Mario action.
ConstyXIV @ Nov 14th 2006 7:18PM
@Yayo:
EST = Eastern Standard Time, or -5 GMT/UTC
CJC @ Nov 14th 2006 8:02PM
Awesome idea! I might be down for this, even if I DO suck at MK:DS.
Reeve @ Nov 14th 2006 8:10PM
I'll see if I can be there-- just have to get my Mario Kart cartridge back!
Kefka @ Nov 14th 2006 8:21PM
Dammit, being in Western Australia puts this at 8am for me... Hmm, then again it's summer so it's hard to sleep past then because of the heat...
Might pop on for a few games - I've got all the games mentioned above... I suck at MPH though :P
It will be good to have a friend-code based regular games... although a way to contact each other out of game would be good - a way to swap IM details or whatever.
David Hinkle @ Nov 14th 2006 11:09PM
For those who do not have Wi-Fi enabled games or who are unable to game with us for any other reason, that doesn't mean you can't hang out with us in the chat! :)
Thanks for reading!
Dave
rick @ Nov 14th 2006 11:15PM
Sounds like a lot of fun I have most of those games and those that I don't, I'll "borrow" from my friends.
bryan @ Nov 15th 2006 12:05AM
haha this is cool!!
I'll cya guys Tuesday
Brad Mecoli @ Nov 15th 2006 12:47AM
shiit I'm up for it. Great idea. :)
current DS Wi-fi games: Tetris DS, Clubhouse Games.
ManicV @ Nov 15th 2006 1:40AM
I'll be there!
Kefka @ Nov 15th 2006 4:07AM
Hrm... I'm in #dsfanboy on irc.freenode.net and I'm all alone...
Granted it's like, 4.45am in the US, but I expected at least one idler...
That said, I barely use IRC, so I wouldn't be surprised if i got it wrong somehow. I just added irc.freenode.net to my list of servers, connected, then did /join #dsfanboy when it had finished with all the login malarky...
* Now talking in #dsfanboy
* sterling.freenode.net sets mode: +ns
* ChanServ sets mode: +tc
* ChanServ sets mode: -s
* ChanServ sets mode: -o Kefka
So... am I doing it right? :P
ConstyXIV @ Nov 15th 2006 8:01AM
@Kefka:
Yup, I was in bed at the time (I sleep, and I'm on EST). I didn't see anyone else respond to my invitation between my post and ~11PM EST, but i put in the ChanServ to keep it open. I'm in there right now, but I won't really be able to play anything until ~3:30 EST, since I have a) class, and b) pick up my copy of FF3, and c) play FF3 until I get home. I'll be watching.
Kefka @ Nov 15th 2006 8:23AM
I'm in there now, 8:20am EST, and have been for the past few hours... noone has entered the chan.
So I'm still not sure if i'm doing it right...
ConstyXIV @ Nov 15th 2006 8:41AM
@Kefka:
I'm in there as of now, if you haven't noticed yet. My nick on freenode is constantine-xvi
chris @ Nov 15th 2006 4:01PM
are we going to set rules, like, no snaking throughout the levels? whenever i play a wifi game against people like that, its no fun. thats not skill at racing, that skill at using an exploit.
ThePete @ Nov 15th 2006 4:42PM
Great idea--but I'm on the west coast and work for a living. 8pm EST is too early for me--my co-workers will be pretty offended if I whip out my DS in my cube. What might be a better idea would be a weekend time, maybe? I could easily do 8pm EST on Saturday.
Come on, it's not like we have social lives or anything!
;)
DiahrreaMan @ Nov 15th 2006 5:30PM
@ chris
What do you mean no snaking? That's when a race really gets intense, when you're side by side with another snaking player, trying to get first place in the third lap. I know how it feels to get your ass handed you as well. There's so people out there that are literally DEMONIC at the game, or they could he hacking, I never really found out. On the hacking note, just the other day I was playing MP:H online and went against this kid who somehow went into a wall in "Combat Hall" and became impervious to any of my attacks, while he could easily kill me. Has any else come across similar instances?
Alisha Karabinus @ Nov 15th 2006 5:52PM
For all those who are saddened by the time or the date: perhaps sometimes we will mix it up. Unfortunately, we will not always be able to make everyone happy (though we want to). Despite everything, we want to get as many DS fans in one place at one time, and then you can all kick my butt around various tracks and make me cry. Good times will be had by all.
Kefka @ Nov 15th 2006 8:03PM
I'm someone who went from hating snakers and never snaking to learning to do it (to some extent) and admitting it's a valid technique.
It's NOT an exploit - Nintendo have recognised it and admit that they were aware of the technique before release. Some people find it unfair, and I admit that if you don't snake at all, coming against an experienced snaker is harsh...
Something to consider: how would you enforce a no snaking rule? If someone is out of your screen, or even in the distance, how will you tell that they're snaking (especially considering the way wi-fi lag makes carts look like theyre swaying)? And what then? How can you prove it, and what do you do about it? Disconnect like a little girl? The point of organising games like this is to avoid disconnecters!
I wouldn't mind having snaking and no-snaking matches, but where does that leave people like me who are only average at snaking (I only do it in a few certain places, and half the time I mess it up)?
Enough ranting... bring on the gaming!
vincent @ Nov 21st 2006 2:12PM
Umm...IM a moron....so can any one tell me how this will work... you know....do we just send our friend codes in one giant pile and dsfanboy tells us who to go???? I'm stpuid :( (purposely mispeleed lol) And 1 MORE THING: Y not Friday? Why during a school week?
KillYourFM @ Nov 21st 2006 1:57PM
This sounds like all kinds of chaotic fun.
Not sure if I'll be up on IRC, but I play MK DS all the time, so please add my friend code.
