Upon setting up the Wii, our first goal was to establish Internet access and
download a ton of VC games check out the WIiConnect 24 service. Problem is, Nintendo hasn't turned on their servers yet, so while our Wii can find an access point, it can't connect to Nintendo and download the update already available for it. So, the next best thing is checking out some of the functionality of the console and this is where the video, embedded into the post after the break, comes in. Watch as Joystiq's
Kyle Orland and myself check out how to post messages onto the Wii.

Matt T. @ Nov 11th 2006 12:45PM
When you finish the message, Does it sound like the the transmitter in MGS is ringing?
David Hinkle @ Nov 11th 2006 1:25PM
Sorry Matt, no MGS sound in-game. That was actually Chris Grant's cell phone ringtone. :)
Thanks for reading!

Oh man! I totally have the same cell phone ring. I thought I was so original. I guess it's okay as long as we're in different states.
I can't wait to post comments here via my Wii in 7 days and 20 hours!
WedgeTalon @ Nov 11th 2006 2:44PM
SOMEbody needs to invest in a tripod! ;)

Any word on USB keyboards working with Wii? If I could use a keyboard I'd probably use my computer only for school work etc and do all my surfing on the Wii but the Wiimote input would be a little too slow for posting long messages on forums.
MrD @ Nov 11th 2006 3:35PM
Only 5 hours with Zelda?
David Hinkle @ Nov 11th 2006 4:00PM
At the time of recording the video, yes, 5 hours was all we logged in.
Thanks for reading!

I'm a little dissapointed there's no japanese support, but it's still nifty :)
Leper Messiah @ Nov 11th 2006 7:52PM
So it does work with a computer moniter.
Score for just getting a flat, 19-inch, digital ultrasharp dell moniter about a week ago.
And its amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing.
Will @ Nov 11th 2006 9:19PM
I may be dumb, but why does Joystiq get the Wii early? IS it because it's for the press type thing? Journalism? Yeahhhh...
danjo1 @ Nov 11th 2006 9:16PM
did you guys try plugging a usb keyboard and/or mouse into the usb ports?? If so, can you use them to type messages?
Bruce @ Nov 11th 2006 11:30PM
danjo1 asks a good question - can you please let us know if you can use USB or bluetooth keyboards? The wiimote looks great for games, but I can't imagine 'typing' that way.
Half-Reasonable Person @ Nov 12th 2006 1:48AM
How did you get it to display on a Dell monitor? Please expain!
Big Earl @ Nov 12th 2006 2:09AM
I hope we can eventually use the DS for keyboard input.
At the very, very least. :(
