Observational standpoint: PS3 preordering

All right, I admit it. I may be a Wii fanboy, but that doesn't mean I can't
The Gamestop employee arrived about thirty minutes before opening. He actually admitted the first two people in line several minutes later, and presold them PS3s. He then came out to the line and said that his store had only been allocated two measly units. While I later found out that the EB Games had twelve units allocated, it was far too late for me. And to think, I could have slept in.
Where does this leave us Wii-goers? Well, we know that Nintendo will have a hell of a lot more units at launch than the PS3, but this by no means guarantees you a unit. EB/GS preorders open this week, and if you want to ensure your spot in line, you'd best get there early. Use your best judgement, but the earlier, the better ... besides, chances are that a few people in line will be rocking the DS. Multiplayer action FTW.
May the Force be with you!

Anyone ever work at a regular sized gamestop or eb and know how big their storage areas are? I ask because Im hoping that store will be able to store more wiis than the measly average of 5-7 ps3s I've been reading about.

Just extended my lunch a bit to swing by our local GS. Guy there said they knew nothing about the Wii so far. One guy was there doing a PS3 order (they were allocated sixteen, the guy ahead of me at 11:33 was #6). He knew that the EB across the street got 16, and the other EB in the ghetto mall across town only got 8.
He said he'd been able to play the Wii at the manager's conference a few weeks back and was very impressed, especially with the accuracy on Wii Sports (like throwing curves in Wii Bowling by twisting your arm).

Actually, yes, that is Cambridgeside. I pulled it off Google...who would have dreamed that anyone would have recognized it? ^^

For my EBgames i remember they only got like 12 XBOX 360's. So give or take on that, if Nintendo definitely gonna pull something out of their ass it will be they will have more than PS3 period.
WiixRevolution @ Oct 10th 2006 3:33PM
To Jason wishnov, LOL yea i was pretty shocked that it was my mall in Cambridge. They only have 1 Ebgames there and it's pretty confined to a small space less than 1300sq. ft. When it's packed ur like trying to move people out of ur way to find ur games

I just call a local EB and the sale associate just tall me that is a fact, tomorrow they will start reserving the Wii
probably for $50.00
I live in Puerto Rico, so if here they going to start tomorrow is a fact that in the States Pre Orders start tomorrow..
WiixRevolution @ Oct 10th 2006 4:10PM
Honestly the only thing i will ever PRE-ORDER from any game store is nothing. When i pre-ordered my xbox 360 they couldn't tell me the exact shipment i was in. Plus it was Nov. 11 when i said F-U and cancelled it period. The clerk from eb was a pure fuckin jerk too. So screw pre-ordering ill just walk right into there and get me one.
Number One @ Oct 10th 2006 4:18PM
@ Noel
How did you get comfirmation?
Noel @ Oct 10th 2006 4:30PM
@ Number One
I just call an EB store near my home, and I talk to the sales man and he toll me to go there tomorrow because they going to star pre-ordering tomorrow, He told me to bring $50 to $100 to pre-order it.
Remember that here in Puerto Rico we have most of the stores that you guys have over there and they use the same dates and everything that the states use...

The other thing ..there is not a lot of gamers fan over here... so when you call an EB or Gamestop, there are nice people, I think they are the only gamers here in the Island except me, and the other thing most of the people speak spanish and they don't read this web sites(just a few a course) but the people here like the video games, I just heard for a co-worker that send someone the reserve the PS3 at lunch time but they are all out here in the Island they already reserved all the PS3 for the Island...

"I guess living in a college town is a bit different from most of the country..."
Yeah... I live in a college town with but a single Game Crazy and one Gamestop in the mall across town. The GC, where I asked half-heartedly first, had accumulated about 60 pre-orders. The Gamestop, when I called last night, said that they already were told of 8 people waiting outside out of fourteen units. I called again this morning to ask if there were any slots left, and the response was "Not unless you're in the line outside."
Oh well... I was going to resell it anyway, and those people probably wanted it more than I.
Coolwave @ Oct 10th 2006 6:55PM
I was number 5 on the list for PS3 this morning and I showed up 20 minutes after Gamestop opened. I hope that doesn't mean there won't be a demand on eBay. Need to at least make $60 for a second remote and nunchuck for my Wii. :)

"I hope that doesn't mean there won't be a demand on eBay."
You know, if it turns out that all of these people are trying to cash in, and there's only a few real sales, I will be laughing my ass off.
PhaZe @ Oct 12th 2006 9:08AM
Because I'm somewhat obsessive, I called 11 EB/Gamestops in my area today (Southern Cal) and stopped by another. 8 said they knew nothing and to keep checking the website, but the other 4 said the pre-order starts friday.
wing @ Oct 15th 2006 2:54PM
Regarding the cambridgeside pic: what could they possibly be waiting in line for at sears? I missed the launch craziness at the EBGames inside, but I heard the line was pretty long (I work across the street).
Halo138 @ Nov 11th 2006 2:40PM
Pre-Order is one of the biggest mistake there is. No one knows what they are getting. I like the way ebay did it this year for pre order sales. That way there wasn't the same problems as with the 360. I'm planning on waiting outside Best Buy for 36 hours+. I hope they dont do the raffel thing again, that is a bunch of BS. If they do it they should do 1/2 of the consoles 1st come 1st serve the other 1/2 raffel. All this is is for hype and media bliss. and remember Sony will be loosing money of the first so many consoles as did Microsoft. The number per store changes every day. Best Buy is trying to say they are getting 100, yea right they only wish. I say stores will recieve 6-8 of each tops.
