FFIII creators talk other remakes on DS
During the pandemonium that was the Tokyo Game Show, Games Radar managed to get an interview with two head honchos on the Final Fantasy III project. In speaking with Hiromichi Tanaka, Senior Vice President of Software Development and Tomoya Asano, Producer, it's revealed that due to the already insane success from the game's launch in Japan, Square-Enix is looking to adopt a strategy of just outright remaking classic Final Fantasy titles, as opposed to just porting them as they did with Final Fantasy IV, V, and VI. So with ports to the GBA, remakes hitting the DS, as well as brand-new spin-off games, Square-Enix is staking a mighty large claim on the DS. We couldn't be happier, to tell the truth.

Please remake Final Fantasy VI for the DS like Final Fantasy III. That would make me very happy.
_habit_ @ Sep 26th 2006 2:02PM
So...there aren't anymore to remake in 3D, unless they remake a remake >_>
Kia @ Sep 26th 2006 2:32PM
Oh god, -please- let us see IV and VI remade!
RandomDouche @ Sep 26th 2006 2:33PM
Square enix loves the DS, they are making a killing from it....it's borderline ridiculous. Oh well, at least those PSP fanboys have yet to recieve any FF games! 0wn3d

This is a wish granted. I never played the "old" Final Fantasy games, and I would definitely buy them anew on my DS if they were remade in 3D glory, ala Final Fantasy III.
Bring it on, Square - my wallet is waiting.
Taltos @ Sep 26th 2006 3:04PM
So is this supposed to be telling us that we can expect a FF:VII remake in the near future for the DS?
nugget @ Sep 26th 2006 3:22PM
I wish this happens, I'm a great fan of FFI and would love to see that made into 3D for the DS. I have the FF1&II dawn of souls and I've just about finished it all up. I can't wait for III to come out here, and I'd love for IV to VI to be in the FFIII style of remake.
FSK405K @ Sep 26th 2006 3:29PM
FFIII will tank. I'll love it, and you'll love it, but its release date is Nov 14 and so it will get lost under the Wii rampage. Children of Mana is released Oct 30 so has a chance to catch its retail breadth before the chaos ensues.
Steinmania @ Sep 26th 2006 4:11PM
My thoughts exactly, Taltos. Even if the game had to be on 2 or 3 carts, I'd be totally fine with that!

@FSK405K
Yes, FFIII, having already sold over half a million copies in Japan, will tank. Good call.
mike @ Sep 26th 2006 7:56PM
they should so make a remake of FFVII
Reeve @ Sep 26th 2006 8:19PM
Forget Final Fantasy, remake Chrono Trigger first!
Dylan @ Sep 26th 2006 8:28PM
I would kill for some final Fantasy VII ports. Can I get an amen Mike? Amen!
moofree @ Sep 26th 2006 9:02PM
I would like games yet-unreleased in America first. Star Ocean, Seiken Densetsu 3, Dragon Quest 5 and 6.
FF7 wasn't that good of a game, but a FF6 remake would be awesome.
Sinergy @ Sep 26th 2006 10:18PM
man just thinking about an ff6 remake makes me wanna .... well, release some sort of a bodily fluid...
seriously. that would rock.
Sri Lumpa @ Sep 26th 2006 11:43PM
I got a couple of questions fro Final Fantasy fans.
First, why is FF3 so anticipated? Is it only because it was previously unreleased in the west or is it known to be a very good iteration in the series?
I mean I have read several comments saying FF2 wasn't that good a game and I was wondering if people would be as excited about it if it had not been released in English on PS1 and was redone like FF3 is despite the critics it seems to get.
And this ties into my second question. I am currently playing FF2 (on the PS1) and am wondering why it is people are panning it. Sure I liked FF1 better (and its music seems to stick more to my mind than FF2's) and I have read that it was the leveling system that they didn't like but I have never seen any specific reason why so if someboy could explain that to me I would be grateful.
Taltos @ Sep 27th 2006 12:16AM
I am painfully reminded of how several Chrono Trigger fan remake projects were shot down now. Alas, Square is still touchy about that subject.
Kevin @ Sep 27th 2006 12:56AM
If FFVII was remade onto the DS I will shit myself.
Geoff @ Sep 27th 2006 1:22AM
heres an idea, a port of FF7 on the VC, do that and i'd cream my pants
and i'd rather FF6 be a VC remake too, i can't see FF VI lookin right using the FFIII engine (not that it has to) and realism is not the DS' sharpest point
Matt @ Sep 27th 2006 1:37AM
As long as they don't make another Children of Mana, I'll be glad to buy the rest of their DS games.
Kefka @ Sep 27th 2006 9:36AM
As I'm sure people can tell by my username, i'd love an FF6 remake.
FF7 would be a dream come true, but i wont hold my breath for that.
What would be even better is if a substantial amount of new content was added, like in Mario 64 DS.
Reeve @ Sep 27th 2006 8:01PM
To a bunch of people: FFVII is allegedly slated to appear as part of a PSP download service (FFVIII, too), so chances of it appearing on the DS are pretty slim.
Taltos (re: CT): Yeah, the fan projects probably haven't helped. (But they should still do a remake ^_^)
