Japanese hardware sales, 28 August - 3 September: verbose edition
As per our fine comrades at the affluent webcomic Penny Arcade, we residing at the fanboy congregated to bestow upon you a post of great vim. Certainly, the readership is quite familiar with the veritable monarchy that the DS Lite has been erecting via its accrued sales numbers; today, the standing ruler has evidently resisted its supplantation. The fact that the DS Lite might even transcend a neoteric console (in its third revision!) is a statement of certain verisimilitude, as we can easily ascertain from the following quantitative analysis:- DS Lite: 228,939
65,665 (40.22%)- PSP: 27,499
2,446 (8.17%)- PS2: 22,703
874 (4.00%)- GBA SP: 2,751
32 (1.18%)- Game Boy Micro: 1,791
28 (1.54%)- Xbox 360: 1,250
53 (4.43%)- Gamecube: 855
18 (2.15%)- DS Phat: 320
90 (21.96%)- GBA: 22
8 (57.14%)- Xbox: 0
12 (100.00%)One might even conjecture that the leading candidate was, at one point, an inscrutable conundrum.

Have to love Tycho and his religious use of a Thesaurus...definitly have to grant him "post of the day" for this little number:
"I am not a "Final Fantasy Hater," though such people exist - indeed, I believe many are currently employed at SquareEnix, where their evil labours on Final Fantasy XII have birthed darkness in a twisted mockery of The Holy Nativity."

Where is PS3?

Can you add totals? You've been tracking these for some time now so it would be nice to see #sold since date x. Thanks.

The DS is certainly capturing the Japanese market.
And it still doesn't mean the PSP is dead.
People who have both > Biased fanboys.

The site is called "DS Fanboy"....

The DS took quite a rise this week! Keep the stock up Nintendo, and of course, keep the great games coming!
Also, according to NPD numbers, pixelator, the DS is capturing the American market even more now as well.
"People who have both > Biased fanboys."
Did you come all the way over from PSP fanboy just to say that? Sure some of the statements here regarding PSP being dead are a little immature and untrue, but I seriously doubt that the PSP fanboys wouldn't be posting "DS is deadorz!11" if the shoe was on the other foot.
With all due respect,
Fox

It's too bad all the systems aren't doing well. Competition is good.

The only thing missing from DS is a better selection of games. Cause even now, the lineup is not that good.

Yeah, I could use a tad more variance in DS games. It's deffinatly got the Fanservice and pick-up-and-play games down. Now... let's see about getting a good fighter, a 3D action game (Cause i've seen FF3.. it CAN be done) and some non-crappy driving games on there. Oh, and RPGs. Devs, I know the DS is an upgraded gameboy advanced.. but stop treating it like one. Put some money into the games like on the PSP. I know I'd rather carry around a DS then a PSP. But then i loose out on some of my favorite genre of games. Fighters, RPGs, and racers. (And to all you people who say you don't care for those type of games, blah blah, remember, Sony won the console round by having something for everyone. Having a few great games in a few great genre's is one thing.. but having something for everyone, will winn everyone. I should never have a gaming platform that has me bored.)

Then don't keep it, or keep dreaming.

"Put some money into the games like on the PSP"
From what I have seen, all that extra money hasn't really helped many of the PSP games so far...Some of the best titles made are low-budget.
Also, the DS has plenty of varience in its lineup; sure there are holes, but as the year goes by they are quickly filled in by new releases. Phantom Hour Glass, for example, will fill the void for a 3D adventure games quite nicely. Diddy Kong racing will add another racing game that will hopefully be a brilliant as Mario Kart. I also believe the DS already has several good RPGs, but if whats available is not good enough for you FF3 and Children of Mana are coming this year and should be good.
"Devs, I know the DS is an upgraded gameboy advanced."
How in the world is it an upgraded GBA? Do you mean in the sense that the PS2 is just an upgraded PS1? If not then I don't know what you are talking about, the DS has power far beyond the GBA, and is not even in the some line as the GBA.
"but having something for everyone, will winn everyone"
Judging by sales, there is apparently plenty available on the DS to please people and Nintendo fans alike.
