The verdict is in: children prefer the DS

Vinnk, a blogger and Ninty devotee at 4 color rebellion, is also a teacher in Japan. And in his off time, he makes children cry. Doesn't sound like someone we want on our side -- at least until the whole story comes out. Vinnk often takes his trusty DS Lite to school and allows the children to play with it. This is a practice of which we heartily approve (get 'em young!). However, on the day in question, his students found not the DS Lite they'd come to love nestled inside Vinnk's blue Nintendo case, but a Sony PSP. The students were so horrifed and disappointed that one even began to cry.
He asked them if they wanted to play with the PSP. They weren't interested. He showed them a game, and they stared at him, stoic, as loyal to the DS as samurai to their lord. It almost makes us want to cry. Score one for the DS -- as though it needed to win any more battles.

Yes.. because, Nintendo's usually very adult image,... it's a shock that children play the sucessor to the Game Boy/GBA which had Pokemon.. a game that children HATE.
Nintendo is a kiddy company. They make games for children.. why are PSP owners ashamed?

What do you expect? Kids know what they love, and they love what they know. I remember as a lil' gamer kid at Blockbuster video, I'd rent the same few games every time when given the chance.

I don't know how you all see it, but when it comes to the children, Wu-Tang is for the children. We teach the children. Puffy is good, but Wu-Tang is the best. I want you all to know that this is ODB, and I love you all, peace.

This doesn't prove much really in the whole younger people like DS more then PSP. I think someone at the age of 30 can enjoy the PSP as much as someone at the age of 7, same with the DS.

Odd, because at the summer camp I work at, I often see loads of kids(8-10 year olds) playing with their shiny, scratched-up psps. What kind of parent would buy a $200 device for their 10-year old?

I played Elektroplankton with my 3 1/2 year old niece during a family vacation. She really loved it. I doubt she would have been able to use the PSP.

If Nintendo only make games for children then what's with stuff like Zelda, Metroid and the like? What about third party devs that did quite a lot of T/M games for DS?
Also, what the hell is so bad about a console having games that also appeal to children? I see nothing wrong with it, since kids are also part of the gaming community. Only appealing to the 'adult' market (read: 13 year olds that think 50 Cent Bulletproof makes them mature) has been one of the PSP's flaws for some time. Stuff like Loco Roco and Exit might fix that though.

@Iguana, you and I both know the DS trolls are more frequent and prolific on PSP forums.
But yes, some do consider Metroid and Zelda to be kiddie. Certainly when compared to stuff like SOCOM, GTA and the like, anyway.
For the record, my girlfriend's 8yo loves to play several games on my PSP, like Harry Potter and a few others. So while the DS is probably a higher profile device among kids that age (due in part to its parent-happy lower pricetag), the PSP still attracts attention.
The story about the kid crying at the PSP was ridiculous. Spoiled brat gets mad because he can't play with someone else's device. That has nothing to do with how the PSP appeals to kids.
