Smokin' hot new Red Steel trailer

Fresh from Leipzig, this new Red Steel trailer makes us wanna grab a shotty and get our vengeance on.
Still, we are a little disappointed ... this new ad follows the same format of this older Red Steel trailer. We get it already -- it's immersive. And there's a guy on a roof with a sword. But all grumbling aside, we're ready to get into the game. Just watch that aquarium.

sigh...This game does not look like it will at all live up to the hype it is getting. The character designs are horrible and for a game with a name like "Red Steel", it should have at least some blood! It all looks so unrealistic. I cannot see myself buying this.

Cant wait for this game. New console, new controls, fresh ideas from a top third party, splendid. Graphics are fine imo and serve their purpose.
I think a study should be done on us humans for when we play the traditional way and compare to when we play the Wii-way. I bet our brains would produce more adrenaline and endorphins when swinging our wii-motes than when pushing two thumb-sticks. I want Nintendos new toy, its cheap, fresh and has the scope to be something very special indeed, now dont cock it up N ok.

Huh...This game looks looks it could live up to some of the hype it's getting. The character designs aren't too bad. It looks like it might be fun in places. It's an old concept given a new way way to play, with mixed results. I might consider buying this game.

Are you guys kidding me.... That the same bullsh*t footage they gave been showing use since E3. The only thing that has change is the actual person in the trailer. The environment and character models still look weak for a new Gen system. Gamecube can run that game if thats it in its final form. This game, if not greatly improved between now and launch, will be a great failure.

@ everyone:
That trailer actually shows ALL of the changes in control since E3... thats actually a HUGE difference and the whole point of the re-done trailer. And it makes it very clear.
its basically a visual instruction manual... watch it again.
for everyone complaining, if you didnt pay attention to the first trailer or play the game, don't expect this to be special for you.
for me it's a marked improvement, and it looks better than ever.

Yeah, I think the improvements over E3 are clear, though I must say I found the actor in the old trailer more endearing. He just seemed so into it.
I'm really hoping this will be around at the various events between now and the amorphous launch date. I want to hear many hands-on reports that it's been improved, because I find this game incredibly exciting and want it to live up to its potential.

I see absolutely no gameplay improvents, so I'd like an explanation of why you said this, .ed and Alisha Karabinus.
Ianc02, I don't think the Wii controls for FPSs are so great. I used to think they would be perfect back when I first saw the controller, and they are definitely a marked improvement over that unplayable dual-analog crap, but they are nothing compared to PC controls for FPSs. My main complaint with the Wii controls is the fact that the screen doesn't move with the cursor, but just the cursor moves -- it's looks like playing Goldeneye 007 or Perfect Dark with the R Trigger always held down (I think I heard of this analogy from Mark Bozon from IGN; it's pretty good).
Oh, and as for the actors in these trailers, I could do without them. I don't see why anyone would perform those actions in real-life while playing any game, at least not me. ^^

Josh, Metroid Prime 3 has the control method you want (it's an Expert control method, not the default)... it's meant to mimic a keyboard+mouse setup. It actually may be better because you use the analog stick for strafing and forward/backward movement rather than keyboard keys.
While this would definitely be quicker, who knows if it will be better. If the remote is as sensitive as reported, having the remote tied to a centered reticule would cause the screen to be in constant motion, not the best control method for Wii games. But test out MP3 and see how you like it, word is that a keyboard+mouse setup may be used in most FPS if it works out.

it still looks like the arm in the game has to 'push' the frame to pivot left and right, which is enough to keep me from buying this game

Pushing the frame to pivot left or right if that is the case is still hundreds of times better then two clunky analog sticks. It's also more in tune with the visuals of someone in a gun fight. Most gun fights if you go from the perspective of a person moving and firing more closely resemble Red Steel then anyother FPS.
It just looks unnatural to you because you are stuck in the mindset of fixed gun fps. Stop being so anal about the wii games.

Holy crap, this is going to be awesome. I hated playing fps' on consoles, but loved to play them on pcs. I was on the brink of getting a 360 when Dead Rising came out but convinced myself to at least wait until the other consoles were released. I think that was a wise decision on my part.

i don't like the look of it because it looks like oversteering. you have to move your gun farther than you normally would in order to get your view centered. in most of the pc fps games i've played your gun is still fixed, but the movement feels a lot more free because it is with a mouse instead of a joystick. i think having a free hand instead of a fixed one will be a great improvement, i just wish the 'box' or whatever you call it was smaller, like if the view started turning when you got half way to the edge instead of all the way. movement looks sloppy the way it is now.

Wouldn't doing that cause the game to angle itself upward, since you're moving the Wiimote up through 3D space...
Can some1 clear this? It's my only issue with the Wiimote, aside from AA Batteries...

i see what you're saying with the box, it would be a good idea to have a smaller box too, i think. but the farther you go out of the box the faster your turn, maybe they'll have a way to change the size of your box in game. and thanks for the heads up on the metroid expert style, that's exactly what i want personally i think metroid will be better than red steel (control scheme i mean)

The remote can detect it's location in 3D space due to the infrared field emitted from the sensor bar (the sensor bar is also in charge of aiming duties). But the game doesn't automatically adjust to the remote's movements: everything has to be programmed. So, while developers could make a game where raising the remote or nunchuck (or both) causes a player to jump or duck, the actions have to be programmed to happen when the device reaches a certain height above its starting point.
Long story short, Red Steel developers didn't program the game to be viewed from a higher angle if the remote was at a higher angle, so that won't happen.
And just so you know, you can easily play Wii games with the complete controller in your lap. Even this game, which seems to require a lot of motion, can be played within a few inches of your lap.
And why don't you like the AA batteries? I think it's a great move. They're cheap, easy to find, and there's a cheap solution to rechargables - I just bought enough batteries for 4 remotes and an extra set, plus the charger, for $25. You can't beat that, considering how much LiOn batteries cost - and remember, those batteries lose their ability to hold a complete charge after a while. Remember, the 360 comes with AAs for a reason.

It seems like the sword play is going to be gesture based: ie. you make a slash gesture and the characters performs a predefined motion for a slash. Sad. Why no free motion, realtime interaction with realistic physics? None of this gesture input crap. Is the Wii capable of that?

This game looks kinda interesting. Tho the sword fighting part looked really gay, I will credit that to the gay actor and not the game. I don't think I'll be picking it up for my Wii though.

Very difficult to tell how a game will play when you watch a video of a Wii title. I mean, with traditional shooters, it's easy to use your imagination, as there are only a limited number of possible control layouts.
However, with the Wii, you could quickly move the nunchaku attachment forward to open a door. Had you not watched the (horrible)actor, you would have never known.
I think that Nintendo and all other parties who are developing for the system should sit down and figure a standard way to display how games are played. Because this 80's level of corny has GOT to go.
(Game looks improved and quite promising btw)

God Dammit, Quit thinking about what YOU think is fun, and get into what Nintendo tells you is fun. You are never supposed to play anything you think is fun if it has good grpahics or violence. Just stick with what nintendo says is fun, weather you like it or not.

They could alleviate the control issues if they retain the current default of wiimote moving only reticle (not screen) and add a button function where if a button is pressed and held down, the wiimote would act as freelook--complete vision flexibility would be enabled. That is, the wiimote would move the gun by default, but the entire view would be shifted if the button is held while the wiimote is moved(like a mouse in a PC shooter).
