Yet another Nintendo event at LGC
First, we reported the imminent keynote speech from Nintendo entitled "Wii Prove Our Promise" at a relatively unheard-of show called the Leipzig Games Convention. Then, we told you that Nintendo would unveil five new Wii games at the conference. And now, yet again, more big news: later in the day, after the keynote, there will be a joint presentation between Nintendo and Electronic Arts, of all companies.A bit of a personal story: on the day that the Wiimote was unveiled at the 2005 Tokyo Game Show, a speaker from EA had come to the University of Florida to speak about game design and coding details of several upcoming games, notably the Xbox 360 version of Madden 2006. At the end of the presentation, he fielded some questions; I, of course, raised my hand and asked him what he thought of the then-called Revolution and its wacky new controller. He looked at me with disdain and shook his head, commenting that he strongly doubted EA would be supporting such a thing.
How times have changed! Or maybe that man was an uninformed idiot, I don't know. Still, it's very obvious that many companies have turned from cold to raging wildfire for the Wii, and a presentation with the biggest third-party in the business can only mean good news. August 23rd! Mark it!

I hope this could lead to closer relations between Nin and EA and possible Will Wright joining forces with Miyamoto!!!! or just bringing a port of SPore over to Wii.

Heh, well EA can develop games for Wii if they want, but as I said, they're not getting any of my money. ^^
Just for some clarification.
Dan @ Aug 2nd 2006 11:33PM
Even if EA sucks, it's good to see the Wii getting more support as always. Plus, I kind of like NFS... and it's cool that such a huge developer is so excited for the platform.

Nooo!
Don't do it Nintendo. Don't sit down with the devil.
JacKal @ Aug 3rd 2006 2:33AM
Wait... University of Florida? Is one of the posters residing here in Gainesville, FL along with oui (or wii, for pun)?
Wii Hate Mii @ Aug 3rd 2006 2:40AM
umm ea owns squeenix. look it up its a fact.
Jason Wishnov @ Aug 3rd 2006 2:45AM
(raises hand) What up. Maybe I'll march around in Turlington with a giant "Wii" sign so you can find me. ^^
Md @ Aug 3rd 2006 4:26AM
No, EA doesn't own Square Enix, and never has. There was a joint partnership between Square and EA for a while (and they both owned equal parts). When Enix and Square merged, they bought back EA's stake.
It's a fact. Look it up. I'll help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Square_Electronic_Arts

The only thing good I can see coming out of this..is a fair port of Spore.
Or they could repackage the same sports game yearly. I guess everything has its audience.

It's been a while since I learned any French, but I think you're looking for "moi" there.
Marc @ Aug 3rd 2006 8:54AM
What's with all the hate on EA?
Seriously, if EA wants to sit down with Nintendo, maybe they realized they were wrong about Nintendo before and they want to make ammends.
Besides, all of you who say you hate EA, must have (at one point) played one good EA game. If you haven't, I suggest any NFS game, and try out Spore when it comes out.
I know that even all you EA haters must be looking forward to Spore.
(oh and #1, Spore is gonna be on every platform imaginable).
Josh @ Aug 3rd 2006 5:50PM
Actually, I have not read almost anything about Spore, and the few screenshots I've seen do not look interesting.
Besides that, I do enjoy me some Battlefield 2.

'It's been a while since I learned any French, but I think you're looking for "moi" there.'
Yeah, you got me. I never learned french. I took Spanish for years though.
Well maybe we should get a UF Wii gathering together!
