Web site runs contest where prize is free Wii
Now this is actually a pretty cool idea.A web site decided to run a contest where they would give away 3 free Wiis to shoppers. Now, there is no entry form or any of that nonsense, all you need do is buy things from their site. Basically, for every $50 (we assume US dollars) you spend, you'll get one entry in the drawing for a free console. It's possible for you to have more than one entry in the contest, so the more you spend, the better your chances are.
Also, if you pre-order the console from their site and win one of the free consoles, you'll get the equivalent of that amount in accessories and/or games for the system. Personally, it would be a lot nicer if they just refunded your money, but with what is sure to be a very cost-effective console, it's not all that big a loss anyway.

So you need to spend $50 bucks to get in the drawing. But I assume that if you win the Wii, you probably spent upwards of $600 dollars on things you may not need, just so you could get a $200-$250 dollar console.
With the way that contest works, it would just be cheaper to buy a PS3.

if anyone wants a contest to win a wii here is one that is free to enter.

marc thats appalling logic.. if anyones that desperate to get a wii they arnt going to spend 600 on items they dont need they'll just spend 250 on an actual wii itself.
also if you do spend 50 and enter the competition and win it... but have already preordered a wii you get 250 to spend on games... so basically you get a wii and 5 extra games only spending 50 over whats normal...
marc your logic is shocking.

How long have you been using the internet? Don't we see pop-up ads everywhere telling us "Free iPod/PS2/Giftcard/Sex***"? Of course then that *** directs to the fine print where you are actually agreeing to buy a bunch of useless crap in order to get your 'reward.' This is pretty much the same exact thing.
Of course, who's to say that there will actually be a drawing?
Save your money.

Game sites regularly put up these types of contest, as long as you can doing it from a reputable retailers, I think it's a safe bet, and of course assuming you are buying something you need anyway, like the new DS Lite. No one will be stupid enough to put money in a pop up free this-and-that ad. But I couldn't find any fine prints on this contest so far, correct me if I am wrong.

good call justin...
stop being so antieverything pat and marc.. it doesnt make you cool.
just because people like you get bullied in the real world doesnt mean that you have to put everything down and be so negative online..
lets try a positive outlook

"marc your logic is shocking."
Eh, so what? My logic is shocking to you? Fine, deal with it. I personally think it's just easier to buy the Wii when it comes out.
Now why do I think that? Because after you buy all that extra stuff (so that you have a chance to get the Wii) you still have to pay shipping and handling for all of those $50+ items. And you'd still have to pay for shipping and handling for the Wii even if you win it.
And if you preordered it, and you use the extra money to buy Wii games, once again, you pay shipping and handling along with paying for the games.
Keep in mind, NOTHING IN LIFE IS FREE!

Who said I'm trying to look cool? You can assume all you want, it won't affect my stance on this "deal" (which you should know is a scam).
And about me putting this down online, of course I'm gonna do that! Honestly, have you ever signed on for ANYTHING in you life, Will, that was supposedly free? More or less, once you signed on, did you even get the product without having to buy useless crap, or signing on to something that you would regret later?
In my opinion, this IS a scam. They say just spend $50 (on their site only) however many time you want and you are in the drawing that many times. I don't know about you, but most people don't buy everthing online. Most people "like" human interaction. Most people like being social.
I suggest you stop putting you name in those "free this" and "win a vacation" deals. They'll come back to haunt you later.

Hey come on guys, this is suppose to be a fun contest. If you like it and think it's real, then by all means buy something and enter. If you don't think so, then don't buy, easy!
Marc @ Jul 21st 2006 12:49PM
Thank you Justin!
Finally some actual sense instead of two dumbasses arguing (me and will).
Oshi @ Jul 21st 2006 1:56PM
Contest aside, that site does have pretty good prices on import DS games... Cheaper than Play-Asia at least.
marc the narc @ Jul 21st 2006 5:45PM
if you want a real immersive experience... dont buy a wii... just take a dump with the lights off... trust me.. out of this world...
justin @ Jul 22nd 2006 4:37AM
Good eye Oshi, it does look like it's cheaper, as with most of the DS Lite accessories too...

Social networking and user generated content happens to be the current buzz words in and around online circles, thanks to these two dimensions of the internet that has opened up literally endless possibilities for the service provider as well as to each of us euphemistically termed the end user. If you thought about copy writers and content specialists going obsolete with the advent of user generated content then you are partly right and partly wrong.
User generated content has a built in Pandora box feature which upon a single act of online misdemeanor by a user can trigger a flurry of legal suits with the main keyword being copy right infringement. Many have prophesized recent high profile legal tussles between online corporate giants like Google and time Warner over unauthorized content as the death knell to social networking and user generated content phenomena. But like all other trends that survived, this also is maturing and adapting itself to the online environment that it belongs and given the rapid development and dynamism that we are experiencing with social networking sites, they are least bothered about the challenges that lay ahead.
The internet as contrary to superfluous speculations has proved to be a one-size fits all medium that caters to people cutting across all age categories. There is some thing in the internet for everybody and it still manages to cater the insatiable craving of its users for everything from news to music and mail to research. We have witnessed the insurgence of blogs but their soulless nature has triggered a backlash in the trend and we are now seeing the beginning of the end of blogging. It’s sure, the blogs are here to stay but they will be paving the way for variants of social networking sites which specializes in areas like, art , architecture and business that others have missed. Traffic to these sites are relevant and refined which if properly channeled can return more than expected results.
Until now and for some more time in the foreseeable future, these sites have been and will be predominantly depending on revenue from third party advertisement for their overheads. In such a traditional strategy, the website features ads placed by third parties craving quality traffic to their web pages and services. Whether the traffic they get is of any quality is the subject of another article. This source of revenue is vulnerable to fluctuations as far as the internet is not the sole medium for advertisements. The internet has its fair share of competitors like the television, print and radio but the sheer possibility of interactivity is the only excuse that makes it a class apart from others. The enormous amount of data that is at one’s disposal is slowly and spontaneously developing this as favorite and first destination for people searching for information.
As any previous trend, social networking is also undergoing slow yet decisive changes with the nature of its content at least partially and the motive by which people come over to them. A new breed of social networking sites like zatsit.com have started revolutionizing the way we see social networking with a shift in their content from purely personal to partially commercial. After all, if people want to and can make money from socialization then I suppose no body has an objection and every body should go for that. Through this strategy, the users can convert their online presence for offering their products and services and by virtue of being in the receiving end of quality and targeted traffic, they can also expect relevant leads. A comfortable blend of personal and commercial activity is sure to make a visit to these sites worth the time and bandwidth it consumes and you can also delve into shopping if offered with quality products and services for compelling and competitive rates.
As history have proved through the dot com boom and bust of the 90’s, it is innovation and alternative resources that holds the key to online survival for sites that do not a steady flow of guaranteed membership subscription. Contrary to the early days of the internet, this medium is spreading like wild fire in Asia and Middle East backed by robust economic growth and increasing online spending. The possibility of freelance work and other services that can be offered and referred through these new breed of sites are enormous and anybody who has a product or service to offer can do it beyond linguistic and geographic barriers which through other mediums he just can afford to. Some sites offer their services for free but others for a premium and these days, you need not know anything about html to create a quality web page featuring your and your products information which these sites will take care of. You can have your own web page minus the inevitable cost and other overheads if you are going for your own site. And what about getting it known to the world that you have this and that on offer? Relax and rest assured, that they will also make sure your page is seen by the world.
So how do you think about utilizing the potential of these sites or is there anything that you can offer through them
