DS America's top-selling game system, Wi-Fi users reach 1.7 million
I doubt anyone was all that surprised when they read the NPD data for June. The DS kicks ass and its games kick ass. This is knowledge shared by many around the world. What you may not have heard, however, is that the DS is the top-selling console in America, having already sold 600,000 units (almost double of any other console on the market). In the Wi-Fi department, Nintendo is reporting that they have reached a total of 1.7 million users worldwide, allowing people to visit a friend's animal town or frag bounty hunters on some distant space rock. It's been just 8 months since the service has launched and it's already beaten every other service's adoption rate to date.

I'm pretty sure that was in the NPD report too. It was actually in your last post about US sales (though erroneously it was stated that 600,000 DS Lites were sold).
I'm glad the wi-fi is doing well. Tetris or Mario Kart wouldn't be the same if I couldn't jump online for a quick match.

but i'm afraid this crack problem will kinda put a brake on that success

I doubt it. I guess you could buy a console that catches on fire (XSucks360) or a console with no games (PSP). The only people who will know about the hinge crack problem are people who read these types of news sites (a minority). The general public doesn't know and doesn't care.

Chew on THIS Xbox live!!

On a different note, is anyone else have trouble finding people online in Mario Kart DS?
Sinergy @ Jul 17th 2006 5:31PM
1.7 mil huh? So why does it take forever to start up a 4-player game on Tetris DS :/ I hate waiting 2 minutes just to find players while the game only lasts 30 seconds, THEN only to have someone drop ~_~

it takes some time to connect just because it takes time to connect worldwide, same thing for mario kart you just have to wait, ive been playing mk this wk n ive got no probs, even some 4 players races and 1.7 m is that much when u divide by all the online games n consider not everyone is online at same time
Abbas @ Jul 17th 2006 7:48PM
Time to connect worldwide? Seems more like bad timing or lack of players.
Makes me wonder how do these numbers transalate into real life
Mohan @ Jul 18th 2006 2:19PM
Well I am enjoying my DS Lite, it's loads of fun, and Mario Kart DS is a blast especially online.
