Dogs love the taste of DS Lite

They say that a dog is a man's best friend, yet based on the image above, it would seem that statement is not entirely true. What kind of friend would do such a thing to a DS Lite? I guess the dog in question just enjoys the taste of plastic, or its owner's salty tears as they almost certainly hit the carpet in a flood when he arrived home to find his beloved gaming system destroyed. Nintendo, who were all kinds of understanding, decided they'd repair it for only 50 bucks.
The real question, however, is not how kind is Nintendo, but rather should the owner of said DS Lite keep the dog and place his expensive toys out of reach of the bundle of gnashing teeth and fur that comprises his K-9 companion or take that puppy down to the pound for an extended stay?
[Thanks Julian!]

He should keep the dog.
Why?
Because the DS lite looks like it's still in working order. That's a Nintendo product for you. They are indestructable!

The gnaw marks add character! I'd say keep it the way it is. Imperfection on such a clean interface makes it more artistic, I think :P
In all seriousness, dogs are dogs. They could care less. If my dog were inside, I'd keep my electronics in a much safer position and at least in a case, even while charging.

Throw the dog out and buy Nintendogs.

I really feel that guy's pain. I too learned the hard way that you should keep your toys up as high as possible. My dog chewed up my iTrip (the new one with the LCD), my wallet (including several credit cards), and my wife's shuffle (still works as a USB drive tho).
Its not the dog's fault though. She/He obviously saw how much fun his master was having playing DS and wanted to have some fun too.

But therz a good reason he bit it
That DS Lite looks tasty! mmmmmm...DS Lite chewy.

Keep the dog, dogs are great. They can sure get themselves into some trouble, but they're great anyway.

He should keep the dog. Family is more important than hardware is any day.
In the end, the DS got fixed anyway. He needs to just be more careful about where he puts his DS. He needs to not be like Probot and he needs to stop throwing it at the floor in frustration when some nublet beats him in Mariokart.

Smart Dogs know:
The new DS lite has only half the calories :-D
SuicideNinja @ Jul 17th 2006 12:44PM
Get rid of the dog. Deport it to Asia; they'll...take "care of it" and put it to good use.
I'm sorry, but I would "be upset" per se.
Weasler @ Jul 17th 2006 3:26PM
I really think this is funny, because the DS Lite is still working, but this PSP isnt.

That's my DS, and my dog.
[There's actually a better picture up on my site now...]
Now, for all you ****ers suggesting that I kill my dog: Who the hell *are* you people? Where do you come from?
Seriously, what kind of person advocates killing a living, breathing animal for behaving in a totally predictable manner? I hope with all my heart y'all are joking, because otherwise I'm starting to think all the crap about gamers and violence must be right.
Wow.
The ZeroCorpse @ Jul 17th 2006 4:50PM
He's right.
Clearly, we should advocate the dog killing the owner, instead. As far as the dog's concerned, he deserves it for leaving his DS Lite out where his innocent, dumb dog could chew on it and possibly die from bits of plastic lodged in the intestines!
Jacob Kaplan-Moss @ Jul 17th 2006 4:53PM
Wow, now *that's* classy. 'cause you know advocating killing people is the best way to... er... something...
David Hinkle @ Jul 17th 2006 7:30PM
OK guys, cut it out. Noone wants any harm to come to Jacob's pet and noone at DS Fanboy (or any of Joystiq's sites) condone the torturing and/or killing of any animal. Let's keep it friendly.
Katotetu @ Jul 17th 2006 7:49PM
DS Lite. Now with 50% less calories!
Helps whiten teeth!
Charming plastic flavor makes it mm-mm good.

I just want to thank Nintendo for being such good sports and offering him a new DS Lite for only $50. I know they don't really repair them. I had a friend that sent in her SP and they gave her a completely new one. So most likely they will send him a new DS Lite and keep the still working parts. I'm sure something like that isn't covered in any warranties so THANK NINTENDO!
Gonzo @ Jul 18th 2006 9:49AM
I think the folks pushing for the death sentence of this dog are joking. At least I hope so. If not, these guys have allot worse problems.
I don't think a dog will go psycho after tasting nintendo blood.
For me, the amazement is at the $50 repair. That's very nice of them even considering that the repairs appear entirely cosmetic.
Makes me want to send a burning psp through the windows of Sony headquarters. They want you to pay $125 just for them to look at something before repairing it. Actually, that price is from 5 years ago, it's probably more now.
Gaye Mann @ Jul 22nd 2006 6:50PM
Did they repair it or replace it? Won't some of the WFC information be lost if they did replace it?
Dylan @ Jul 23rd 2006 3:53AM
Don't do anything to the dog except maybe invest in some training, ultimately it's your fault for leaving the DS within reach.
