Smile for the DS Lite camera [Update 1]

This video depicts a supposedly makeshift camera (which, to be honest, looks a little scary) hooked up to a DS Lite and, thanks to some homebrewin' magic, it starts taking pictures. Barring the horrendous framerate, it seems like an amusing device with equally amusing future applications. The thought of taking a snapshot of someone's face, only to doodle on it with a stylus is pleasing in ways best left unmentioned. Still, there's every chance that it's an elaborate fake, with homebrew software merely displaying some images taken previously with a real camera.
It's hard to make a decision on the legitimacy based solely on this video, though we expect the homebrew crew to quickly show up and put things into focus. Either way, at least we got the whole "doodling on people's faces" imagery out of the deal.

the cartridge in the gba slot is a supercard except...the supercard isn't supposed to have an SD card sticking out of it...fake.

I don't think it's fake. I think it's nice to have someone make something that Nintendo's been refusing to do.
Nintendo really should concider doing this. I think it would be cool that after you take a picture, you could send it to the Wii. Then you can share pics or video to your friends through a messaging service that the Wii could have.

the camera that theere using is a sidekick 1 camera, if it was fake they would use a better camera, and the frame rate is small because its meant to be on the sidekicks little screen.

I think it's fake. Watch closely, the shifts in perspective don't even remotely match the way he's moving the DS. My guess is there are pre-taken pictures on that blue GBAMP-looking device that he's scrolling through.

If someone faked that it'd be the biggest waste of time ever. Looks legit to me. Everyone is so quick to cry fake for no good reason here. Also, if it's fake because of the Supercard having a SD card in it, what do you figure IS in the GBA slot then?

This guy is a legit DS hacker, he has a ton of other stuff on his site. I see no evidence this is fake.
As for the SD card sticking out, if you browse his site, you'll find he modded it, so he could replace the card without having to remove the Supercard every time.

Yeah...Kako is a wild man. He made the PSP tilt sensor too. Everyone shared the video on that one (kotaku, gizmodo, engadget) but no one linked to his site even after i e-mailed them.

Alright. I, for one, take back my "fake." The guy's website lends a lot of legitimacy to it. Now, why didn't DS Fanboy post that to begin with? ;-P

Grant: I think a lot of us have been burned so many times by really well done hoaxes, that we're rightfully paranoid and cynical as hell whenever something nifty comes around nowadays. It's a highly irritating situation all around. :(
What's fun is when you know something for sure is real and watching people try all sorts of weird ass armchair analysis-from-Mars in an attempt to Sherlock it all out.
