Smash Bros. Brawl: who's in, who's out
Masashiro Sakurai recently let slip some information about who would not be making the cut come time for Brawl's release, along with who some of the newer cast members are outside of the previously mentioned. We here at The Fanboy don't agree with cutting anyone out of the game, so when we heard that Young Link, Ice Climbers, and Mr. Game & Watch would be getting the boot, we were a little more than upset. The inclusion of three new characters in Young Bowser, Ridley (YES!), and Wind Waker Link are nice, however we just don't understand why anyone has to be cut at all. I think I'm most upset that I won't get to scream 'sauuuuusages' at people in the tone of the famous Kids in the Hall sketch when playing Mr. Game & Watch anymore.

Don't think of it like Young Link is getting cut out, think of it like he's getting a makeover. In SSBM, Young and Old Link were both based on Ocarina of Time, but now Young is based on Wind Waker, and Old is based on Twilight Princess. As for the cuts, I'm pretty sure they're not final, especially if we complain enough!

Ok, Young link, I guess its ok because he's getting replaced by Wind Waker Link. Ice climbers... I don't think anybody seiously used them, but they were pretty fun to use when we played around. But Game & Watch? He was legendary among casual gamers. I knew a few casual gamers who LOVED Game & Watch. He doesn't deserve to be cut. If anybody, he should have taken out Pichu. And I hope he's referring to Bowser Jr. when he says "Young Bowser". He's a feisty little one.

Marth and Roy should be replaced by Ike... and I want to see Krystal with her staff!

I kind of wonder, should Roy get replaced? He didn't even really belong in SSBM, because Smash Bros. is for Nintendo All-Stars, and the only game that Roy stars in was released after SSBM was released. He was included to promote that new Fire Emblem game that was coming out in Japan (that has never made it outside of Japan). But Roy became rather popular since he was included in SSBM, so he's almost an All-Star just because of that. I'm kind of on the fence about what they should do with Roy, but I do think that they shouldn't cut anybody, simply because, in my opinion, once you're in, you're in forever.

I agree that we'd never want to loose anyone, but so long as you hold on to your melee disc, you never will.
If there is a size / development time limit, I'd rather see new characters than rehashes.
Snake being in surprised me actually, he's definitely not a Nintendo all star, and now if any popular Nintendo character doesnt make it in, Nintendo fan boys and girls will be annoyed that a 3rd party character got in instead of Ninty character 'X' or 'Y'.

Why would they take out completely original characters like G&W and Ice Climbers? Bowser Jr. is probably for the most part a clone. Also, how are they going to literally fit Ridley in this game?!
I really don't want to see any of the old characters go, though... ;_;

If anyone needs to get cut it's all those damn Pokemon that keep appearing. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind Pikachu or Mewtwo simply because they're more popular and actually decent, but Pichu and Jiggy blow and should never have been added.
As long as my favorites (Falco and Samus) stay I'm really not to worried. Ridley is going to be a nice addition to my team.

I would hate to not have G+W - I don't think they should take out ANYONE at all. Maybe improve the clones a bit, but definately not remove anyone.

you're right about pichu, but in the right hands jiggy is one of the best characters in the game, ive personally been to smash competitions where jiggy has kicked the crap out of some seriously good competition, the fact that it looks so cute and innocent just adds to the awesomeness!

I love that I can now play Ridley, but at what cost? Young Link has been replaced by the worst Link iteration to date, and two(three, technically) of my favorite characters, Ice Climbers and Mr. G&W, have been removed.
I don't care about playing as Baby Bowser, especially ever since they screwed up the idea behind that character(now that it isn't just Bowser as a child along with Mario as a child in Yoshi's Island).
Why did those awesome characters have to go??? At least replace them with something good. Geez!

It's Bowser Jr., not Baby Bowser. While they look very similar, Baby Bowser is King Bowser Koopa as an infant. Whereas Bowser Jr. is his newest child that first appeared in Super Mario Sunshine.
I'm almost willing to bet Bowser Jr. would be able to transform into Shadow Mario...
And, it's only been stated to be a cel-shaded Link. Not necessarily TWW's Link. Personally, I'm hoping for TMC Link, so you can have Ezlo poke out peoples' eyes!
But, likely, it'll be Phantom Hourglass Link, as a means to promote the new DS Zelda (just like why TP Link is in Brawl, to promote TP).
And, you forgot to mention that the roster is to be around forty characters. ;)
And, I'm not too happy about the loss of characters, either. I much preferred Young Link over Link in Melee (Fire Arrows FTW!). And Mr. G&W was a lot of fun to use. I never used Ice Climbers much... but I still don't think ANYTHING should be cut. Considering how much they managed to fit on a GCN disc, they should have plenty enough space for new and old content on a Wii disc.
And don't knock Pichu, folks. He can be quite useful, if you know how to use him right. I've won many games with Pichu. :)

Well, cuts are fairly easy to explain. It's not a space issue, but a balance issue. If you toss too many characters in, you risk losing balance due to the amount of moves, stats and other things, and balancing out a beat 'em up perfectly is pretty much impossible(Although SSB Melee comes close) and takes a long time.

Minish Cap is not cel-shaded, and they use two different art styles.
Although, I'd much rather perfer Minish Cap Link, he's not going to be the cel-shaded one. Mainly since Minish Cap wasn't cel-shaded. >_>

Of course The Minish Cap isn't cel-shaded. It is a 2D game, afterall. However, it uses the same style of Link that's used in The Wind Waker, Four Swords (+/Adventures), and now Phantom Hourglass. Just look at the official source art.
And it's not even like making a 2D character 3D would be an issue (look at Ice Climbers or Dr. Mario, for example). They can use the TWW Link model as a base, and alter him by adding Ezlo. There, done.

Bowser Jr. already existed, too, though. In Super Mario World for the SNES, Bowser had 7 kids for you to fight through before you get to Bowser himself. The name of one of these children was Morton Koopa Jr. This is clearly Bowser Jr. because, well, who else could he be named after? It's also funny because it means Bowser's real name is Morton. I think that's funny.

Frankly, I always found the Ice Climbers really annoying.
When using them, Nana felt like dead weight I was forced to carry around. She was unintelligent and never did what I wanted her to. If she died, Popo was a complete wimp when alone. And I could never keep track of both of the little munchkins simultaneously.
Against them, I felt really cheated. They are way too powerful together, double damage on most attacks, and I always thought how Nana couln't take damage was cheap, and I'd always find myself attacking the wrong one.
Maybe they're taking them out because newcomers thought it was unfair 2-on-1 advantage? Or maybe because of their low popularity> Whatever the reason, I say good riddance.

This is a hoax.
Do not ask me to prove that it is a hoax. The burden of proof always lies on those making an assertion, and as many have looked, you'll find absolutely no proof in favor of this.
But without proof, I sure have a lot of evidence. None of the major video game sites, including Nintendo's own are reporting this, and the rumor itself is an absurdity: no one says they're replacing Link with Twilight Princess Link, so why would anyone think they're replacing Young Link with Wind Waker Link.
I've also heard that the radio show Sakurai allegedly made this statement on doesn't exist.

I'd like to see some official website confirmation of this, but I am GLAD to see Ridley in there. I've been wishing he was in since the 64 game. I am sad to see Ice Climbers and GW go, though. Those quirky characters are very fun to play. I wonder if Young Link's makeover will keep his smash attacks from popping the bad guy back over his head this time?

People who are complaining about Ice climbers don't know who Chu Dat is, popular as the 3rd best in the world who mains Ice Climbers, and there are many great Jiggly Puff players. Falco is the most overpowered character in the game, and you are asking to upgrade him. Many of you have no clue what you are talking about.

The Ice Climbers were good on the Sand Bag Hit (i forget wat its called), to be truthfull i thought Mr. Game & Watch sucked it was hard not to use some of the cheep moves like the sausge or bacon and Young Link is getting the boot actully and the Windwaker Link isnt actully the real link so.....Young Link is getting kicked out and at least they arnt talking out the characters from the original game think about that for a second before you say oh no Game & Watch is getting the boot or yeah The Ice Climbers are getting wat they deserve you never know they could come back in the next Super Smash Bros.

Now...honestly...
Megaman would kick butt. Think of the possibilities if they were to include him. He could use all sorts of his special weapons and junk. Plus, his stage would be awesome!
As far as the cuts go (if this is the real deal, which I doubt), I'll be OK without Young link as long as WW Link shares most of his abilities. The Ice Climbers are fun, but their mechanics really need some work. Other than that, Me - Game & Watch = Death. I gotta have me some classical 2D-in-3D gimmicky abilities. He's gotta stay.

Also I think one or some of the Metroid Prime hunters should be in (Trace and OMG PLEASE PUH-LEASE SYLUX, so he can beat the crap out of everyone with the shock coil :D!!) I think this game's gonna be sweet, just as long as the they don't kill off Mr. G&W and Ice Climbers, I'd say this game is gonna be pure kick-ass!!

I think that all the characters should stay exept for pichu. he should be replaced by like charmander or soemthing and if they were to have that id want squirtle and bulbasaur as well, Just for having the whole set. I also think mr game&watch is funny as and he should still be in it and I dont see why no one seems to like roy when he is one of the coolest characters. Im glad hes in it. i dont really like the iceclimbers or jigglypuff but its good to have some lame charaters to laugh at.

i personally would be fine without young link, G&W, and ice climbers (i also wouldn't mind seeing marth and roy taken out) but those are all opinions i think that none of them will be taken out...but just because me or the next guy doesnt like them doesnt mean they should be taken out they are characters and even though we have melee who wouldnt want to go out there on the battlefield and beat up snake with the ice climbers
so come on Sakurai dont take any out they are there and they shoudl be there to stay!!!

Well this article failed way in advance... don't post crap that isn't confirmed... Sakurai said there would be no clone characters, so Y.Link was removed... the other two have returned... Ridley and Kid Koopa are not in the game, and Toon Link was the replacement for Y.Link... this article fails for not getting confirmed info
