Iwata confirms Wii-DS functionality

In an interview that was conducted with Japanese newspaper Nikkei Business Publications, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata focused mainly on the Wii, however he also confirmed that the Wii will be able to interact with the DS in the form of downloadable demos through the WiiConnect 24 service."Let's say your Wii is connected to the Internet in a mode that allows activation on a 24-hour basis. This would allow Nintendo to send monthly promotional demos for the DS, during the night, to the Wii consoles in each household. Users would wake up each morning, find the LED lamp on their Wii flashing, and know that Nintendo has sent them something. They would then be able to download the promotional demo from their Wii's to their Nintendo DS's."

that sounds awesome, getting demos from my Wii to download on my ds, and deciding wether i like it enough to purchase it or not,sounds great..
one question though(since i saw the pic w/ the black Wii)..when will they let us know about the other Wii colors,and if they'll be available?..no matter what color though, the fact that we can use these two machines together will b great

Was kind of hoping to play the roms I download from Nintendo's whatever service. Particularly N64 roms.
But hey. Beggars can't be choosers.
I guess I could just not buy a Wii until they make it more DS-friendly though.

This one step closer to the big news I'm waiting for . . . I bet the DS will work as a controller for some Wii games. Anyone else realize they both use WiFi? I just know its coming.

That sounds like a really neat feature. It'd be really helpful for those who live in areas with no DS kiosks, and where there are few game stores.
Now I really have to set asside some cash for a new DS AND a Wii!
Maybe N64 roms will be available later on. It makes perfect sense that games you buy for virtual console, would be available to transfer to the DS. At least in my opinion. The Cube did something similar with the GBA, so I don't see why it wouldn't be in their plans.

I find this extremely cool. One thing consoles have *always* been too thin on is free demos.

It would be cool if you could also use it to download news and video footage to ds!Also download opera updates to ds and ds could download them to Wii.Like sharing new portable and console inforemation.Also download firmware updates to DS.To make funcitionality better.And DS could be downloaded with new functions.Like downloaded with game boy games.Hopefully when DS lite comes out in 3 days it will play my old gameboy games.And wouln't be cool if the updates stayed on the systems firmware.And nintendo could make a camera for DS in the gameboy slot.This would be great!And knowing Nintendo,they'll do this!Nintendo rules!!!

I'd like to be able to use my DS as a wireless classic controller. If it allows for some on-screen information, kinda like the dreamcast and the VMU, that would be even better.
The downloads are definitely cool though.
