Miyamoto: Yup, you can slap your face on there
"This isn't [a new original game, but] I'm directly involved in "Super Mario Galaxy." Apart from that, I am involved in the "Wii Sports" series. Although these really aren't new characters so to speak, the "Wii Sports" series features these little models which you can put your own faces on ... and then you may start to see those characters, with faces you've created, appearing in different games on the Wii system. Beyond that, it's true that I am working on some different ideas. It's just a little bit too early for me to show those off yet."
Faces you've created appearing in different games? What different games? Is there going to be some built-in tool kit or camera add-on? Bueller?
Let the speculation begin!

I think his comments have been misconstrued. It sounds to me that he was speaking of a character creator. Mix and match pre-set facial features, hairstyles, etc. Clearly, that's not a photograph of Miyamoto textured onto the little tennis player. Notice he uses the phrase "faces you created". He never mentions facial mapping or photographs at all.
I think it's just a create-a-character mode that will extend beyond just one game. Not as cool as facial mapping, but still cool.

It's exactly as Sense says, Miyamoto is just talking about the previously confirmed "Create-A-Face" mode. It's still cool, though. ^^

yeah just as Sense said, but how cool would this be when you are playing with your mates! ohh man, I can wait to get my Wii :D

I think the comment "...and then you may start to see those characters, with faces you've created, appearing in different games on the Wii system." got me the most excited out of all he said. I think it serves as partial proof that Nintendo is thinking of using a hard drive with the Revolution. That idea makes me giddy.

Sam, or the 512MB internal flash ROM or SD memory cards. :)

Josh, let's all hope to God they don't do that. Memory cards are t3h suck.

personally, I'd prefer the 'create-a-character' face than facial mapping... my face ain't pretty, and althought it might seem cooler or easier to just take a snapshot of your face and paste it on there, I'd really like the idea of a builder system. I mean, there could be nifty unlockables, or even better, downloads of newer future things to add to your char-creation tools. Imagine getting nifty hats or accessories or things to make yourself look awesome. I for one, would be all over a link cap to put on my avatar's head, or a mario cap even.

Sam, it's already been confirmed that the Wii uses 512MB of internal flash and has at least one slot for SDmemory cards. However, the USB ports on the back will allow you to use any size external harddrive (it's not known yet if this will be only for media or for game saves as well).
Now, the thought of me having an 80GB harddrive for the Wii's saves and Virtual Console sitting in my bin of old computer hardware has ME giddy! :)
Sam @ May 31st 2006 4:15PM
Well, as long as the system supports external USB2.0 hard drives, I'll be happy.

And remember... the controller has internal memory too. You could take your controller over to a friends house for a tennis match and automatically appear!

I doubt you'll be able to plug any old hard drive into the Wii, Nintendo would be missing a money making opportunity and if it was used to store virtual console games I'm sure some clever clogs would find a way to copy and distribute them from an external hard drive, stopping people from downloading them from Nintendo.
