DS vs. PSP: Tic-tac-toe throwdown [Update 1]

In a complicated process which no doubt involved dark alchemy and at least one blood sacrifice, a clever member of the homebrew community has managed to get the DS and the PSP talking to each other wirelessly. The hot topic under disussion between them is nothing other than Tic-tac-toe, that ancient game born in the absence of our wonderful handheld devices.
After loading the homebrew application, users can engage in an epic battle of noughts and crosses, one of them using a DS and the other using a PSP. Very impressive indeed! Will this usher in a new utopia of cross-platform homebrew games, or is it just another Romeo & Juliet yarn in the making?

impressive. look at the differences in resolution, how much bigger the game is on the ds.

Ah, to have a future in which we could play online/WLAN on multiple platforms.
I may be making this up, but wasn't there a time when the Dreamcast and Gamecube versions of PSO could be played on the same server? Either way, it's something to look forward to.

It would be really nice to see some commercial games playable between different systems. Same goes for Win/Mac/Lin.

Tic-tac-toe is so appropriate...one system can draw the symbols, and the other has buttons just for those shapes!
But yeah, this is obviously the work of the devil...this is worse than putting Windows on a Mac. :P j/k

Games that did/will share the same servers across multiple platforms that I can think of off the top of my head are Final Fantasy XI, Phantasy Star Universe, and .hack//FRAGMENT.

Ya see, all this proves is that there shouldn't be a war between Nintendo and Sony (forget MS). Ya know, now Nintendo and Sony should work on a console, together. Think about it, it'll have the great gameplay, and rockbottom prices of Nintendo and the astounding graphics of Sony. This could put an end to Ninty fanboys and Sony fanboys. This could be the beginning of the 1000 years of peace after the apocalypse.
Or am I getting ahead of myself?

They tried that. It was the Super Nintendo with the Playstations attachment. Nintendo pulled out tho because it took too long.
I love Nintendo, but I still say they should have been a bit more patient.
BTW, this is awesome. I want to see more of this in the near future.

Yes Mullet, they did pull out, and Sony created the PlayStation with what they had done so far in the deal. It then became insanely popular and led Sony into making the PS2, the most popular console of all time.

Actually, Sony had always intended on developing it's own system. They simply wanted to use Nintendo's popularity as a springboard. In fact, under the original deal (which Nintendo quickly had renegotiated after it discovered Sony's intention) was to release it's own CD Super Nintendo (rather than just a peripheral) and charge it's own licensing fees.
You also have to consider that until this coming hardware generation, Sony hardware has always been towards the ottom in power. The Saturn was very powerful, but expensive and difficult to program for. Sony has always done well by manipulating perception of it's products. Am I saying there weren't many great games for the PS systems? No, of course not. But they could have been done on other systems just as well, if not better. I simply do not like Sony and their view of the consumer. Nintendo are greedy control freaks, but at least they're honest about it

1. make a new connection using these instructions
2. first of Put in your IP Ex. 192.2.29.32 (not real)
3. Make the Primary DNS as Follows : 208. 42. 28. 174
4. run a online ds game with the new connection

Nintendo's dealing with Sony wasn't exactly "honest." The intention of Sony to develop their own multimedia 'home entertainment system' was common knowledge. What caused the rift was when Hiroshi Yamauchi read the (c).1988 contract and noted that Sony would get 25% of the profits of the SNES Play Station. Without a word to Sony, they went on to reveal a new partnership with Philips through their now-infamous 9am announcement at the 1991 CES... Effectively pulling the rug out from under Sony in favor of a company that would give them total control over the machine.
In Japan, what Nintendo did was considered highly suspect and against Japanese business ethics - especially since Philips was a Euro company. To this day, I find it fascinating that they were able to bounce back from such a stigma - although one could to some extent trace the end of Nintendo console dominance back to this very move. No system of theirs ever clearly dominated the home console scene after that.
Sony, in an effort to salvage the development spent on the Play Station, shifted to a standalone game unit that eventually became the Playstation system (after ditching the SNES compatible slot). Nintendo even SUED Sony in the US for breach of contract in an effort to stop the release of the system, and obviously failed in the attempt.
The Nintendo/Philips deal also fell through, though it eventually spawned the megaflop CDi, which had some truly craptastic ports of Nintendo products.
So no, I wouldn't call Nintendo's side of the Play Station debacle 'honest' especially with their 11th hour stunt at CES and their subsequent efforts to get a US injunction.

.hack//FRAGMENT is only for the PS2. The PC disc that comes with it is for hosting your own fields.
