Isn't this the same magazine that printed that the revolution stand was a power base? Oh, I forgot, that was a "small production error"
cahrdr @ Apr 17th 2006 1:22AM
Isn't this a UK magazine? Therefore the October date would be the Euro release date? Thence, the NA date is likely before?
seasidebaz @ Apr 17th 2006 4:00AM
no cos iwata said he wants as close to simultaneous as possible, hinted that a euro release may come first, and that there may only be 2 weeks between release in each territory...
Probot @ Apr 17th 2006 4:52AM
@seasidebaz
I think you're confusing Sony with Nintendo. Kutagari wants the global launch. Iwata has specifically stated that a simultaneous launch was unlikely.
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=15659
At first a headstart in Europe sounded wrong, but it might be possible. They need to launch before the end of November in the North America. And before the end of December in Japan. Rather than squeeze Europe between those two, or just wait till next year, they might try to launch it earlier, say in October.
Considering this is an offical magazine, I'd wager these guys are going to get the games well in advance of the launch, so just because they have them, doesn't mean we will anytime soon. Then again, October 27 is around when we expected the Rev to launch anyways.
Either way, I look forward to scans of that mag once someone infringes on the copyright and illegally distributes the pages online where a Weblog, Inc. employee will contribute to the violation by posting a link.
And about that Europe launch stuff I just said, don't hold your breath.
Louis @ Apr 17th 2006 11:27AM
I have the magazine. It might be worth noting that in the free booklet "50 Nintendo Games that changed the world", under Metroid (#13) it states "Metroid Dread for the DS will return to classic 2D form."
I thought that game had been canned a few months back! I can grab a scan if you'd like.
Louis @ Apr 17th 2006 11:32AM
Whoops, I meant last month's magazine! :p
Vik @ Apr 17th 2006 4:18PM
Um - so since this is the May issue - why are they referring to Nintendo's next console without the "Codenamed Revolution" moniker and just Revolution.
I'm confident that the next console's name will be Nintendo RS - Revolution System.
Probot @ Apr 17th 2006 5:36PM
"why are they referring to Nintendo's next console without the "Codenamed Revolution" moniker and just Revolution."
Because Revolution is easier to type. There's no need to say it's a codename every time. It's already been confirmed that it'll get a new name at E3.
My money's on Evolution. It's like Revolution, only without the R and political ramifications. (Unless you're in the southern US.)
Antibot @ Apr 17th 2006 5:40PM
"(Unless you're in the southern US.)"
Kansas is in the mid-west, not the south, idiot.
Gamer_Domeni @ Apr 17th 2006 9:27PM
@ #5 What the spin doctors said after Iwata spoke was that they would be launching within a window across the globe. Just they will not be releasing it everywhere on the same day.
Contin @ Apr 18th 2006 9:18AM
I don't trust this source. Better I wait for others to confirm it
Probot @ Apr 18th 2006 4:13PM
#12 Contin,
Yeah, how would an Official Nintendo Magazine get their hands on Revolution games? That's just absurd.
#11 Gamer_Domeni,
Yeah, I agree with that, but Jim Merrick said it'd be out in a 14 week window, not 2 weeks between launches as seasidebaz said. It's possible, but 14 weeks is more than 6 weeks.

The idea of a gesture controlled Monkey Ball actually sounds pretty cool. House of the Dead would be a natural.
jadenguy @ Apr 19th 2006 2:13AM
i'll have a stroke if sega's next gen game will be JET SET RADIO REVOLUTIONS.
Shiro @ Apr 19th 2006 3:29PM
To the argument over the name of the system:
I've actually heard that Nintendo was considering the name "Nintendo Shift" as well as Revolution, an obvious reference ot the motion sensors. But of course... The name Revolution has gained such fame, I doubt they would change it.
Why change something that you've got going for you, right?
Grok The Ha @ Apr 19th 2006 5:57PM
Kids, I'm telling you, Shenmue was designed for the Revolution controller. All Yu Suzuki has to do at this point it up the graphics and fix some dialogue, and you've got a FREE (full reactive eyes entertainment for the no0bs - look it up) trilogy of some kickass games that admittley could have been better if the input scheme had been better.
It was Suzuki's life dream as a game developer to make Shenmue, and it tanked in America, but he said he still hasn't put the project down. He said that he's been waiting for the opportunity, and I can't think of a better one than now. The input scheme will make this game. Shenmue is a top secret game for the Revolution.
wayne @ Apr 20th 2006 2:24PM
in relation to the worldwide launch,(by probot), it is still possible that it can happen, nintendo have stated that it was a misunderstanding:
Speaking to Bloomberg at GDC last week, Iwata said, "We don't think it's necessary to do the simultaneous worldwide launch simply because others are doing this." (original statement)
Nintendo recently clarified that Iwata only meant that it will not simply copy competitors. It has not, according to a recent report by MCV, ruled out a worldwide launch. - http://uk.revolution.ign.com/articles/698/698819p1.html
i wouldn't rule the worldwide launch out yet..... the link is above if you want to check the article out. :)
