Revolution to be called Nintendo Go?
Engadget has received an image that, if the mysterious sender is to be believed, is a snap of one of Nintendo's Japanese presentation slides intended to introduce the Revolution's new name: The Nintendo Go.
Though this has every chance of being a hoax, it's worth entertaining the possibility that this is the real deal. The logo seems similar in design to that of the Gamecube and, if you're feeling particular abstract, you might even see a d-pad exploring multiple dimensions in there. Fake or not, we like it. The truth is mere hours away.
In the meantime, what does your instinct tell you?

Well, I wouldn't be surprised at all. I was completely shocked, and horrified, when I finally heard the dolphin's final name (GameCube). I thought it sounded rather silly, but I got used to it.
And remember, 'Go' is 'Five' in Japanese and this is their fifth console. So in Japanese it would be liking calling it the Nintendo Five, which isn't so bad.

Looks nice, but I think incorporating the 'x' logo makes it resemble the x-box just a bit too much.
I'm thinking it's fake for just that reason.

Sadly, it looks pretty legit to me. I hope they keep the Revolution name, GO is just not a good name (for Americans at least). Just think about when it comes out: "Hey man do you want to play some Go?", that just sounds horrible. Oh well, I guess we'll know soon enough...

It is most likely fake but I give them big props to the idea behind the logo because how the whole 3d cube thing like the logo for GC and N64. Has every one forgot N64 logo. No one even mentions it. The angle maybe a little bit different that the GC but its still the same idea as the gamecube logo with the C inside a G which makes a cube (i know alot of people who did not even know thats what it was until i told them) and the N64 with the creative 3D cube N. So with the + cube logo I give them credit because its the same idea behind it as Nintendos other logos. I give it a 50% chance that the real Revolution logo has the same 3d cube idea.

Coincidentally, "Go" is often said to be Hiroshi Yamauchi's favorite game, and an NES version of the board game is the only video game he'd ever played.

It looks real enough, but well if you have a projector at home/work you could make something like that yourself. Its some quality designing though. The logo itself clearly gives you the idea of 3D movement/control, which is the main idea behind the revo.
But the name, go.. i dunno i like revolution more, even though revolution is a tad to long for a console name.
Anyway it could be real and could be wrong at the same time. Remember the names ninty was calling the GC before they announced the final name ? Horrid stuff like starcube and starroad or whatever.

I call a fake. Why would the slide be in Japanese if the GDC speech is in San Jose, California? Also, Paul, about Yamauchi, I heard also when he did play that Go game on Famicom, he got so frustrated with the controls that he just gave the controller to someone next to him and told him where to play, but that was from an episode of some British show that was posted somewhere on Joystiq...

Looks VERY convincing. As already stated, this IS Nintendo's fifth console, so Go would be a nice 'double meaning' name. And the logo is very probable as well, a D-Pad (the second most important 'button' on the controller, after the big "a" button) in all three, it is very much in the sense of the revolution controller.
Plus; the English word Go is a movement, and you will have to move the controller to control games :)

I think it looks pretty legit. That's a good deal of logo work for someone just to make it up. As far as the japanese: 1) Just because we are in CA, doesn't mean everyone reads in english. This is a developers convention, and alot of them are japanese. 2) We don't know what that says on the side. Could just be back content stuff, like a power point presentation. Possible you aren't going to see the side content in the presentation.

I think this would actually be a pretty cool name and logo for their new online service. The logo represents several d-pads coming together, and "Go" would be a great name for the online multiplayer and game download service.

My moneys on its the Onling Gaming or Virtual Console's name. Nintendo GO (Gaming Online?) But that might mean a possible rename of the Nintendo WFC, unless thats DS only... soo confused...

Umm ... Maybe it should be pronounced "Djee Ow" and has some meaning. Or maybe as said, "Go" is the name for the online feature ( Nintendo Gaming Online :/ )

If they call it the Nintendo Go, I'm tempted to almost not even buy it just because of that... Nintendo Revolution sounds MUCH better.
I'm betting Hoax. Nintendo has more style than that.
After all, there's Takeout food... it's to Go, as well... and it usually doesn't last very long before it spoils.

There is something slightly wrong with the lighting of the 3D d-pad cube thing. The middle looks like a cube but is popping out because of the lighting. It might be fake. I REALLY hope that is not the new console's name.

Imho when they refer to Go they didnt mean the boardgame they mean the number, Go = Five in english, you can check here: http://www.freedict.com/onldict/jap.html so if anything it will be called N5 or somthing simular.

First of all I think it's fake- or at least hope so because Revolution is probably the best name for them to stick with.
I agree with the people who have said GO is japanese for 5, it's the fifth console also you use the controller in 5 dimensions, it's a very active console there's the Gaming Online connection and also the numerous d pads stuck together emphasising the multiplayer axpect of the console.
Most of which I've said is what other afore me have said before but there's another angle to look at, maybe it isn't the revolutions name but the gameboy's; Gamboy O-something, psp in terms of gaming has the processing power while the ds has the inovation where is Nintendo answer to power? Although stated by them on many occasions that they aren't in the same console market there has been nothing on the hand held scene in that respect. Therefore it is okay to surmise that they are still in the market of hand held gaming with the intent to produce fantastic visuals at low cost.

A name that makes people laugh is not good, which would be a terrible shot to the foot for a system with so much potetial. Can settle with the logo but, just stick with Nrev, it sounds light years better.

Honestly, I think all of this has potential. The whole "GO" thing seems, in my opinion, a good name for the console, knowing the stuff Nintendo has come up with in the past. But, I prefer "Revolution", myself.
The picture looks like it's a picture of a slide in a presentation, but, who would pull a camera out randomly, take a picture, and send it out around the internet?

maybe nint is going back to differentiating the names having unique names
for us and japan like back in the nes famicom days, japan go us revolution
plus dont japan mix the ls and rs, which would make revolution harder to pronounce
