Phasing out the original DS
Will Nintendo phase out the original DS once the newly announced DS Lite hits retail? It was rumored that Reggie
Fils-Aime confirmed this in his recent GameHead interview in
which he was also the barer of bad news revealing that Zelda: Twilight Princess has been delayed yet again
until fall of this year. Double whammy for gamers with big hands and a desire to play Zelda sometime during the
immediate 2006 calendar year.[via 4cr]

I don't think many people will miss the original design.

I hope they do phase the old one out and I also hope that there is still a demand for them. That way I might be able to shift mine on eBay without losing too much cash when I buy the new model.

The delay isn't exactly a bad thing. I'm glad they're taking the time (as they usually do at Nintendo) to flatten all the bugs and make sure it's a solid game.

I know the DS Lite is coming out but I do hope they do not "phas out" the original DS. I don't have enough money to buy a DS Lite and my Best Buy store just tightened up its warranty so I can't return mine. I think that they shouldn't phase out the original DS. They didn't stop making improvements or games for the gba (most likely because it was a real money maker and still is) so why with the origignal DS. Besides the games will fit I just hope they dont make somehting extra just for the DS Lite.

They're definitely phasing the old ones out. I got a letter from Nintendo this morning advertising that when you buy a DS at $130 you get a free game, from a short list of course: M&L in Time, MarioDS, Kirby, Meteos, Dual Strike.
I think you're onto something there Bifter (#2); many people may end up just preferring the larger model if the new one isn't too comfortable in the pocket either. And there we'll be, on ebay.

I don't think they're going to stop making the old DS. I heard from Revolution Report's podcast that they will still make the old one for 20 dollars less than the DS Lite. But if they do phase it out, it's gonna be a bad for those who just bought the old one. lol

Nintendo has yet to make a handheld modification that was not liked by the public. So i do not see there being a problem with DS Lite. When the DS was released i got it right away, i did not have bugs or glitches. Just like with SP, and The Advance. I usually just get it imported. I dont like waiting for american releases. It will be fine, and i will buy it A.S.A.P.
